______________________________________________The infection wasn't isolated to the bar, it was spreading fast.
"Where should we go now?" Elaine panted beside me, her face pale under the streetlights—
Raven's POV
Her hands were shaking and for the first time, I saw her so unraveling.
I steadid her shoulders and forced her to look at me.
"We go to my apartment. It's close and I have some supplies " My voice came out steadier than I felt.
I had to be strong and I couldn't fall apart.
Not now, not with Elaine looking at me for guidance.
We went through the alleyway.
My mind was spinning, assessing everything I could do.
I can't believe this is happening.
The collapse I had always mocked in the movie, the virus I had laughed off earlier, it was all real.
As we ran, my thoughts flickered back to the man in the bar, his desperate plea for help.
I had seen that look before, people who is desperate for survival.
The image of his bloodied face burned in my mind.
"Raven, focus!" I shook myself out of it as Elaine gripped my arm again.
Her eyes darted wildly, scanning the dark street for any sign of danger.
We rounded the corner and I saw my apartment building.
Just a few blocks away, I spotted a movement up ahead.
A group of peoples-no, infected were wandering aimlessly, like a predators waiting for pray.
I pulled Elaine behind a parked car, crouching low.
"Stay quiet." I whispered and she nodded
One wrong step, one sound and we'd be the next.
My heart pounded in my ears as I make our options.
'Run? No, That's too risky. We wouldn't make it past them.'
'Wait them out? Maybe, but time wasn't on our side.' I gripped the handle of a broken bottle on the ground.
Pathetic, I know, but it was better than nothing.
My mind raced, searching for an escape plan.
Suddenly, Elaine let out a soft gasp.
"Raven... look."
I followed her gaze and felt my stomach twist.
One of the infected was sniffing the air, its head slowy turning in our direction.
It hadn't seen us, yet, but it was close, too close.
Elaine's panic was palpable and I could feel my own nerves shaking.
I had to make a decision.
"Listen." I whispered urgently.
Should I ditch her? No I shouldn't.
"When I say go, you run to that alley over there. Don't stop and don't look back. Got it?"
She hesistated but nodded.
"Go!"
Elaine darted out from behind the car, and I followed right after.
Making as little noise as possible but it wasn't enough.
The infected let out an inhuman screech, and in an instant, the other joined, their heads snapping toward us.
My heart dropped.
"Run faster!" I shouted, feeling the andreline surge through my veins as we bolted down the alleyway.
They were right behind us and their snarls are closing in.
Its so disgusting to look at!
