"You have five to get back in line or we'll continue until I feel like stopping!" I hear Coach Dalhouse shout at us.
Some other girls and me run to the water fountain to get water while others run towards their bags to get their water bottles. Today was the first day of practice for the girl's soccer team and Coach Dalhouse was working us like crazy. So far we've ran forty laps around our incredibly big but also incredibly hot gymnasium and thirty five suicides across. I'm always the last one to finish and never make the time. I'm the least fit of these girls since I've never been on any team. I honestly hate sports and already feel like quitting this one. My legs feel like JellO and I have the biggest lump in my throat. I can't breathe. 'Ugh! Sports are so much work!' I scream inside my head. I'm not lazy or anything after all I do have the highest GPA in my school. 'Not for long. That kid Jeffrey has his heart set on beating you.' Tells me my subconscious and I simply roll my eyes at her irritable little comment.
I reach the water fountain and I'm about to drink water when I feel someone tap my shoulder. 'Speak of the devil!' I scream inside my head. Guess who it is? If you said the one and only Jeffrey then you guessed right. He was standing right behind me just staring at me with a stupid smirk and I wanted to slap it right off his face. From what I've heard he's smart and studious. He has the second highest GPA in the school. He has a reputation for using girls like they're tissue paper. He's on the boy's soccer team, plays as a midfielder and is pretty good at it.
"Yes?" I asked sweetly trying to hold back my annoyance.
"Um...can I drink water?" He asked still with the stupid smirk tattooed to his face.
"Can't you see I'm doing so too?" I asked now not even bothering to hide the anger in my voice.
"Well I just thought you'll let me drink first." He responds.
"What makes you think that?" I asked him taking a step towards him ready to slap the living days out of him.
"Well...I don't really know. I just figured you'll be nice and move out of my way. Since I'm hot and girls always do what I want." He said. I was shocked by his cockiness and just doubled over with laughter. I couldn't stop laughing at what he'd just said. After laughing for about two minutes I managed to say in between laughs,
"W-who has b-been l-lying to you?"
He just stared at me with a look of confusion. It was so funny. He actually thought he was hot. Poor kid someone please show him a mirror."Move!" He ordered me. And I simply stood where I was and crossed my arms.
"Move!" He said again. His voice level was rising. I just stood there and raised an eyebrow at him.
He moved closer and just pushed me. I feel on my butt on the floor. He just glared at me and started to drink water. The idiot didn't even try to say sorry. While he was bent down drinking water I stood up behind him. When he turned around to find me behind him I kicked him where the sun doesn't shine. He automatically fell on the floor holding his precious "baby makers."
I proceeded to drink water and then heard Coach Dalhouse yell that we had thirty seconds to get back in line. I sprinted as fast as possible to my spot but there was a crowd of cheerleaders blocking my way so I didn't make it in time. I got to my spot five seconds after everyone else. Luckily Coach Dalhouse was turned around taking to the basketball coach, Coach Marsala. When she turned around she glared at all of us."I now need you ladies to jog twenty more laps and twenty suicides across. I'll better see you all trying your best to make the time and actually acting like a team. Help each other! Cheer each other on! Act like one!" Damn she's so loud and demanding. I'm starting to grow a deep hatred for her.
We start jogging our laps. As I try to pace myself I see Jeffrey glaring at me. I give myself a mental high five for my latest act of bravery.
Twenty laps later I am soaked in sweat and my shirt is sticking to me. I hate sweating. We start doing our suicides right away after everyone is done as I sprint off I feel a familiar pair of eyes on me and turn to see Jeffrey still staring at me. I roll my eyes and it seems like he notices my actions because that stupid smirk is now back.
Once everyone's done Coach Dalhouse announced who the team captains will be. She chose Radaisha, our goalie and one of the most sweetest and helpfull people in this crappy school. She also chose Jen and Sarahy. Jen is a senior. She's really nice as far as I know and is very dedicated to what she sets her heart to. On the other hand, Sarahy is one of those girls that believe they're the queen-bee of the school. She's arrogant and stuck up. As far as I know she's mean to everyone and bullies whomever get in her way. When Dalhouse is done everyone sprints into the locker room. As I'm about to open the locker room door, I hear Dalhouse tell my name.
"Grey! Get back here. Where do you think you're going?""Um...into the locker room to change?" I respond. My statement sounding more like a question.
"You think I didn't see you get into line late? I also saw that whole Jeffrey situation." Sugarplum! Iced tea! I curse inside my head. Well not really curse but it's something. I hate swearing.
"I'm sorry. He just..." She interrupts me."You'll stay and do as many suicides as I feel like making you do." She yells at me. I sight and just get into position to start running.
It's gonna be a long night...
