"Ahhhhhhh," Zoro and I exclaimed in together as we plopped down onto the comfy living room pillows, sipping from our hot cups of tea. "Sitting down has never felt so good," Zoro said, deeply relaxed. I agreed with a contented sigh, feeling as if a heavy weight had been lifted from my shoulders. After a few moments of relaxation, Zoro sat up and put his cup down.
"There's actually something important I need to talk to you about, Yumi," he said in a serious tone.
I also set my cup down and turned to face him. "What is it?" I asked.
"I know we've been together just for a few weeks now, but I can't keep it a secret any longer. I'm planning on leaving the village when I turn 17," he said, his seriousness tinged with sadness, as if he didn't want to see me hurt.
"I mean, how else are you going to become the greatest swordsman?" I replied whilst picking up my cup again to take a sip. ''I hadn't realized it was coming up so soon though''., I said looking down a bit upset.
He looked at me, surprised. "You knew?"
"I mean, it's less about knowing and more about... predicting?" I said, holding my chin thoughtfully. "Staying here won't really help you reach your goal, so you'd have to leave eventually."
"I'm sorry," he said, his voice full of sadness. "I really like—no, I love you. And I wish I could stay here with you, but I just can't. I hope you understand."
My heart skipped a beat as he shared his feelings. My cheeks flushed a bright pink. I cupped his cheek and kissed him gently on the lips. As I pulled away, I smiled at him. "I love you too. It's okay. I totally get it. It doesn't mean we'll never see each other again, right?" I asked, in hope to get some reassurance.
"I hope not," Zoro said, looking worried.
"We should enjoy the time we have left, then," I said, pulling him into a tight hug. I might have seemed confident, but even though I knew it was coming, the thought of Zoro leaving felt like a bullet through my heart. I love him so much and don't want him to go, but at the same time, I want him to follow his dreams.
"So, are you leaving on your birthday?" I asked. He nodded and kissed me on the forehead. "In a year then," I said, feeling a hint of sadness.
He gently stroked my hair to comfort me. "Are you planning on staying here?"
"I don't know yet," I replied. "There's so much research I need to do that traveling won't help with. For now, I have to stay."
"I see," Zoro said, still stroking my hair. Whilst my head is resting on his chest. "I've got an idea."
I looked at him, curious about what he was going to say.
"How about we promise each other to meet up at an island in the future?" he suggested.
"But, Zoro," I said, holding back a laugh. "How are you supposed to get there?" I teased, trying to keep my laughter in. He paused for a moment, then scratched his head with a sheepish grin as he realized I had a point. He sighed, I dont know what to do besides that.
"I guess we'll have to leave it up to fate," Zoro said with a sigh.
"It better decide for us to meet, or I'm going to beat fate's ass!" I added, half-joking but still determined.
Zoro chuckled at my response, shaking his head. "I wouldn't expect anything less from you."
He leaned over to me and gave me a kiss. I love you."
"I love you too, Zoro."
.
"Knock knock."
Koushirou, Zoro, and I opened the door to be greeted by a group of carolers.
"We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"
They sang in perfect harmony as I handed out cookies and my homemade apple juice. Zoro and Koushirou were enjoying the show, humming along to the melodies. I love Christmas. It's all about love, sharing, and caring.
