𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐲

It's been a week.

An entire week since father dropped the bomb on me and within this past week I still haven't grappled with any information it's like my brain doesn't want to consume it.

At the end of next week I'm expected to move in with Zaid and live with him. I grimach every time I think about it.

I still do not understand why I should be obligated to marry Zaid when they could've found other alternative methods to strengthen the merge.

Some alternative methods I cannot name right now.

I've been stuck in this hotel room for the past week, without leaving and just thinking.

Endless possibilities ran through my mind but none stuck and I know for Zaid it's not just about the company's well-being it's because of something else. Something big.

I could see it in the way he looked at my father, with a burning passion of desire for something.

A knock on my door brought me back to the present and I shifted my attention to the hotel room door.

I could just stay seated here and act as if I'm not here but when the person knocked again I knew they wouldn't give up, so reluctantly I got up from my seat and walked over to the door and looked through the peephole.

It was a man I did not recognize and I furrowed my brows before opening the door a bit to peek outside.

"Can I help you?" I asked at the man who finally shifted his attention to me. He had brown dull eyes with a well structured face and a buzz cut, I'm not a huge fan of buzz cuts but this really suits him.

"Courtney Saunders?" He asked and I nodded still very confused and he extended his hand "I'm, James. Mr Monroe's head of security and I was told to give this to you" I looked down at the envelope in his hand and skeptically reached out and took hold of the envelope.

"Have a wonderful day further, Ma'am" he said before walking off leaving me with a mouth full of teeth and staring at his back as he walked off.

But in all of that I only had one question. How did he know I was here?

Closing the door behind me I immediately opened the envelope and my heart stopped at the page before me.

A contract. A marriage contract.

As I read the paper I felt my blood boil. I was angry at the fact that he had the nerve to send me a contract to sign. I was angry that he expected me to just walk willingly into something that I don't want, into something that we both don't want.

And I'm angry because he doesn't have the backbone to bring it to me himself.

There was something else in the envelope too and my heartbeat increased at the speed of lighting when I saw the matte black ring box, and a note.

It is expected that this should be on your finger when you enter my home. Lovely wife.

-Zaid.

I let out a frustrated sigh and threw the ring, envelope and page onto the couch before running a hand through my hair, biting my bottom lip.

Why me?

Why me of all people?

Lovely wife. I grimached at the thought of the words.

He's trying to taunt me and I know that, that's just the way Zaid Monroe is, but he's messing with the wrong person. And I'll prove it.
