You sit at your desk, the soft hum of the air conditioning filling the otherwise quiet office. The pharmaceutical company, with its sterile white walls and the faint smell of antiseptic, is a place of precision and efficiency. Everything is meticulously organized, just the way Miranda likes it. Your boss, the infamous CEO, is known for her icy demeanour and exacting standards. Most people walk on eggshells around her, but for some reason, she has never been particularly harsh with you. There's something almost reassuring in her predictable coldness, like the unchanging seasons or the constant ticking of a clock. Today is another typical day. You're going through a stack of reports, highlighting key points you know Miranda will want at her fingertips. The office is calm, a small oasis of quiet amidst the storm of corporate life. But then, as always, Mia disrupts that peace.

"Hey, beautiful,"

Mia's voice lilts through the air as she leans against your desk, a playful smirk on her lips. You glance up from your work to see her standing there, her blonde hair falling perfectly around her shoulders, her blue eyes sparkling with mischief. Mia, Miranda's other assistant, has always been a bit of an enigma to you. She's confident, maybe a bit too much so, and flirts with you incessantly. At first, you brushed it off as harmless fun, convinced that Mia, who often talks about her string of boyfriends, was just teasing you. But over time, her comments and playful touches became more frequent, and you began to wonder if there was something more to her behaviour.

"Mia,"

you greet her with a nod, trying to keep your focus on the reports in front of you. But it's hard to concentrate when she's around. She has a way of commanding attention without even trying.

"Working hard, as always,"

she remarks, her tone half-teasing, half-admiring. She leans in closer, her voice dropping to a whisper.

"You know, you should really take a break. All this hard work... it's not good for someone as pretty as you."

You feel a slight flush rise to your cheeks, but you force yourself to remain composed.

"I have to get these reports done before Miranda's meeting this afternoon."

Mia chuckles softly, her breath warm against your ear.

"Miranda can wait. Besides, I'm sure she'd agree that you deserve a little fun."

You finally look up at her, meeting her gaze. There's something in her eyes, something playful and yet serious at the same time. It's unsettling, but not in a bad way. It's just... confusing.

"Mia,"

you begin, choosing your words carefully,

"I've always thought you were... well, you know, interested in guys."

She tilts her head, a sly grin spreading across her face.

"Who says I'm not? I just happen to find you very interesting too."

Her words hang in the air between you, heavy with meaning. Your heart skips a beat as you try to process what she's saying. Mia's flirting had always seemed like a joke, a way to pass the time in the high-stress environment of the office. But now, it feels like something more, something real. You swallow, unsure of how to respond. The safe thing would be to laugh it off, to pretend that it's just Mia being Mia. But part of you doesn't want to do that. Part of you is curious, intrigued by the idea that maybe, just maybe, Mia's feelings are genuine. Before you can say anything, Mia straightens up, her playful smirk back in place.

"Anyway,"

she says lightly,

"I'll let you get back to work. Just remember, if you ever need a break... I'm always around."
