Chapter-9

(5 years later)

Time passes quickly. Ananya has entered the second half of her 20s. She owns a book shop in her town and she is less ambitious about career, more ambitious about helping elderly as she also runs an organisation that helps elderly people.

It was just an average day until her mother came there.

Ananya wanted to show her mother the recent sales at the book shop and how it's a profitable business and her mother can finally be proud of.

Her mother had different plans, sharing a marriage proposal.

"Ananya," her mom said, her voice filled with excitement, "I've received a rishta for you."

Ananya wasn't so excited.  "From whom, Mom?" she asked.

"Shivansh," her mom replied.

Ananya's heart began to beat so fast but she tried to control herself and keep calm.

"It's the perfect rishta," Her mom continued, "Shivansh is a handsome kid. He is successful. We know his family. His father is so kind to you, he visits your book shop too, right?"

"Yes, he does. And yes, he is very nice to me. But it doesn't mean I am going to marry his son just like that." Ananya said. She isn't going to marry him, she would stay unmarried her entire life but won't marry him, who broke her innocent heart.

"But Shivansh was your friend? Isn't it better than marrying a stranger? You don't even talk to boys, how else am I going to get you married?" Her mother said, in a rather not so serious tone.

"I don't want to marry," Ananya said.

"But everyone has to marry someday." Her mom said.

"I don't. I am happy here, in this bookshop, with you, our home." Ananya said.

"They live nearby. You can continue your shop, you can see me and your dad almost everyday and you can come back to our home every now and then," Her mom gave the counter argument.

"I know, but still, I don't want to marry now. Maybe after few years," Ananya said.

"But you won't get this rishta then." Her mother said.

"Does Shivansh know about this?" Ananya asked.

"Of course, that's why his father would have given us the rishta proposal, or...at least that's what I think." Her mother replied.

"Ask his father if his son wants to marry me. Then we will proceed," Ananya said, knowing too well that Shivansh probably doesn't even know about it.

Her mom agreed.

That night, Ananya called one of her friend, Shweta, who was friends with Shivansh over the years.

"Hey, Shweta, how are you?" Ananya asked.

"Just job, work, and my annoying boss," Shweta replied.

"Are you in contact with Shivansh? Remember him?" Ananya asked.

"No, not since last 6 months or so," Shweta replied.

"After our graduation, you was still in contact with him, right?" Ananya asked.

"Yes, for almost 3-4 years but lately not even getting time to talk to my boyfriend, so yeah, hardly get time to meet Shivansh." Shweta replied.

"Okay, see, I need your help. For a moment I want you to forget that Shivansh was your friend too. Just think of me as a friend and Shivansh as someone you just knew, so tell me, over the years how many girls was he involved with?" Ananya asked.

Ananya had a plan. She would get the information and tell her mother that Shivansh is not a good guy, he's a Casanova, a manslut, and not worthy of being a husband.

"Not even one, but why are you asking this?" Shweta asked.

"Not even one? Stop kidding me. He was involved with so many girls back in graduation days. Even that Sneha," Ananya said.

"He changed. He never dated a girl after graduation. At least that's what I know. No dating, no hook ups." Shweta replied.

"I can't believe it," Ananya said

"Why not? People change all the time. Remember how I used to be a little bit narcissistic? I have changed, now I am a good person. I care for people around me and I try to be kind," Shweta replied.

"Yes, but...sorry I am asking again. But is it confirmed that he was not into dating, hook ups after graduation?" Ananya asked.

"Yes, he used to be more focused on career. He also became more religious after graduation as far as I remember." Shweta replied.

"Okay, thanks" Ananya replied.

"But why are you asking?" Shweta asked.

"I will talk later," Ananya said and cut the call.

Now, she's more confused than ever.
