I had no idea how long I had been dead for. The minutes, or days or whatever blended together in a disgusting cocktail of boiling skin and teeth.

But one minute, one particularly awful minute of torture, something came.

As the flames continued to rape my now mutilated existence, I heard yet another voice. I know not what was said, my blood and others being boiled was too loud of a sound, as our flesh crackled and seared.

I remembed being pulled from the flames, like a dog drowning in a river. I felt cold for once. Dead hands. Hands not unlike mine, but unlike mine that they do not still feel the searing of my flesh as it pops disgustingly.
I heard the man from God Knows how long ago yell and plead. "Do not take the youth! You have poisoned one too many with your curses!" I heard the stranger spit venomously back the words, "Better than the curse that lies here."

I fainted, unable to speak. Even when dead, I couldn't hold on from the pain.

When I came to, I was sat in a cold dark room. I didn't complain at all. How could I? It felt amazing. My skin was no longer searing. I cried, and it was not blood. Should I be happy, or fearful?

"There you are. My new successor." I didn't bat an eye at the stranger, as I fell to my knees in tears. He didn't force me to look either.

After a few minutes of relishing the fact I was no longer burning eternally, I finally decided to look around. The room was minimalistic, howeved was almost like a museum.

Many paintings scattered about, such as The Creation of Adam, the Fall of Lucifer, and more I truly could not care less to name. Then, my eyes fell upon the stranger. He wore nothing but a cloak, and covered his face with a hood. His hands were.. Well, I can't properly describe it.

"You may call me Azrael. What is your name..?" He asked softly. It felt almost sickening.

God.. What was my name..? It had been so long...

Se... Ser...

"Sera..Seraphina.." I said almost questioning it.

"It's good that you are unsure," he said in a way I could just feel him smile.

"Why so..?" I stuttered slightly.

"Because soon, you will have a new name." He said

I folded over, still on my knees as I felt a familiar pain. The searing, God the searing. It burned. It made me feel a hate I hadn't felt for a long time.

Branding. Does this- Azrael- think I am some kind of animal..?

If he does. Or- It...

I will be an animal.
