It was about seven in the morning when Wendy and Dipper pulled up to the Mystery Shack. They could see Mabel already waiting for her brother on the porch. "Well, I guess this is it," Wendy said, giving Dipper a peck on the lips. "Thanks for the best weekend I've ever had in my life," Dipper said. Wendy laughed. "Dude, we're gonna have even better ones before the summer is out!" Dipper smiled. "I love you, Wendy."
"I love you too, you little doofus," she replied. "Now come on; I gotta hit the post office before work today- I kinda forgot to do it on Friday."
"Gimme a text when you get home today?" Dipper called as he alighted from the truck.
"Sure thing, dude- have a good day with your fam!"
Dipper stood watching as Wendy drove off, already feeling lonely and unmoored. He felt a hand on his shoulder; Mabel was shaking him to get his attention.
"Hey, Mabel," he said, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.
Mabel wore an excited smile as she practically vibrated with curiosity.
"Okay, come on, Bro- You've got to spill!"
"Spill what, Mabel?"
"Come on, Dipper! What did you two get up to for three days? How'd it go?"
"Mabel, a nerd doesn't kiss and tell."
"Oho, so there was kissing?"
Dipper groaned as he picked up his bag and went inside, Mabel at his heels.
"Look, I'm not gonna spill the details of my sex life to my own sister...."
"Sex?! You guys had sex?!"
"That's not what I meant! Knock it off!"
They scurried up the stairs and entered their room. Dipper tossed his bag onto his bed.
"Hey, Dip, you can't keep me out of the sex-loop, here," Mabel said as she moved the dividing screen aside so she could talk face to face with her brother. "Come on; who was the one who told you that Wendy liked you the way you liked her?"
Dipper sighed and sat down on the edge of his bed. Mabel sat on hers, opposite him.
"Well...." he began.
Mabel scooted eagerly to edge of her bed, chin in hands as she rested her elbows on her knees. "Well, what? Come on, come on!"
"It feels a little weird, actually," he confessed.
"Weird? In what way?"
"Well- I mean, Wendy doesn't just like me- she really loves me."
"But isn't that what you wanted?"
"Oh, God, Mabel! I've dreamt of almost nothing else since our first summer here." Dipper laid down, putting his hands behind his head. He contemplated the ceiling as he continued. "It's just...."
"It's just what? -Oh, God, Dipper! Don't tell me you don't have feelings for her like that anymore! I'll die if you-"
"No! Mabel, I love Wendy more than anything. It's just that...well...I'm kinda weirded out. I mean, stuff like this doesn't happen to me; when do I ever get to be happy? When do I ever get to live out my dreams? ...Without it being some kind of trap?"
Mabel stood up and moved to sit beside her brother as he lay on his bed. She leaned over him.
"Dipper, what's wrong?"
"I just feel that it's going too fast. That it's too perfect. I keep- I'm afraid of 'waking up,' and it all turns out to be just another hopeless dream."
