CHAPTER ONE

The following morning, Susan noticed that Lillian had swollen eyes. She was confused because Lillian was the first to always sleep. However, she looked like she didn't have enough rest. Susan leaned by Lillian as she served her breakfast and she whispered to her, “My little angel, you look like you didn't sleep well. Were you still learning deep into the night? Your father has warned you about that right?”. Lillian sighed and retorted, “Susan, I will never go against my father's will so I didn't stay up late. I slept well Susan, that is the truth”. Susan studied the girl's face and knew that something was wrong. Susan went to Virgil Lillian's father. “Virgil, I think that Lillian is not fine, didn't you see how she looked?” and that was Susan. Virgil in a puzzled look asked, “Are you talking about how she looked today? I guess that she didn't sleep well yesterday and that is normal”. Susan shouted, “No Virgil that is not normal she looked stressed and worried”. Virgil said comfortingly, “ Susan I think that you should give Lillian some space and stop worrying so much about her. She is a really strong girl not weak as you think. She can take very good care of herself”. Susan nodded in  frustration  and went out of the room.

CHAPTER TWO

One Saturday, as Susan started her daily chores as usual. She took Lillian's laundry out to the balcony to wash and as she got out her uniform from the Laundry basket, a certain picture slipped out of its pocket. Susan glanced at it and took it. When she found the person on the picture, she panicked and the picture fell on her bowl of water. Susan thought deep in her mind, “Where did Lillian get this picture? Her mother's picture my own sister Rose who died eight years ago. I am afraid Lillian will start to question her legitimacy in this family. This is not good news at all”. Susan shouted for Lillian, and she came galloping in joy. However, Susan could still sense her frustration. The first thing Lillian saw was the picture which was lying on the  bowl of water. Lillian hurried to stop the picture from sinking and cared for it as if it were extremely important. Susan asked inquisitively, “Lillian, where did you get the picture in your hands? Don't lie to me Lillian speak the truth”. Lillian shivered and swallowed hard and responded, “Susan can I trust you?”. Susan nodded and Lillian continued, “ I found this picture underneath my father's bed”.Susan questioned, “Why would you do that? Your father will be crossed when he finds out you went through his things”. “ I needed answers Susan. I can't even call Vera my mother because she despises me and treats me as an outcast” as Lillian finished speaking tears flowed like running water. Susan hugged her and tried to comfort her and said, “Lillian, just so you know I will not tell your father”.

CHAPTER THREE

“As the days keeps going, the relationship that exists between Lillian and I keeps breaking” Vera emphasized and continued, “Lillian used to worry me with lectures even though I hated those lectures, I know her very well. Now look, she is always with Susan don't you think Susan has told her something?”. Virgil retorted, “Please, Vera let me sleep today. What is wrong if Lillian becomes closer to Susan more than you. Moreover, that is all you wanted. And get this, Susan will never spill the beans so please just relax okay?”. Vera calmed down but still she knew that something was wrong since Lillian still thought she was her mother.

In the middle of the night, Susan woke up panting, “Oh my God!!!”. Susan rushed to the balcony and kept whispering and she went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. However, her hands were gripped in fear such that the glass of water fell down and bursted. Susan went back to bed and prayed a simple prayer, “God, You know the kind of dream I dreamt today. Make my sister to sleep in peace and give everyone long life in good health. Amen”. Susan was unable to sleep throughout the night. The following day, she was really in a bad condition. She looked frustrated and tired, so Virgil gave her a day off to fix anything wrong. Susan sat on her bed and reflected on her dream and thought, “I can recall that in my dream, Rose came to me and she warned me to tell her daughter everything. Everything she had told me to say before she died. She was ready to kill anyone who stands in her way”. As Susan kept thinking she asked herself, “ Should I tell Lillian what her mother had told me? Or tell her the truth or just leave things the way it is because she is too young? No, just look at how furious her mother was I will tell her what her mother told me before she died”. Then, Susan called for Lillian and she came galloping as usual and yet still her frustration was quite noticeable.
