The next morning, as Anya and Ruhi awoke, Anya wrestled with the decision of whether to address the previous day’s events with Ruhi. Ultimately, she chose to hold off on discussing it.
**Ruhi’s POV:**
My head pounded mercilessly when I woke up. Anya lay beside me, and I didn’t know how to thank her for always being there. Yet, I couldn’t bear to think about yesterday—or my broken heart. The thought alone made my hands shake. I desperately needed a change of scenery.
“Anu... Inu... Baccho, come downstairs for breakfast,” Mum’s voice called up to us.
I had no appetite. “Anu, go ahead. I’m not hungry,” I said, my eyes fixed on my phone.
Anya rose from her chair and sat next to me. “Ruhi, are you planning to starve yourself for the rest of your life?” Her tone was sharp, and her intense gaze made me flinch. “You can’t let yourself be overwhelmed by this. Remember what you always tell me—‘Love is destiny and fate.’ If he’s meant for you, he’ll come around,” she said, gently stroking my hair.
“Children, why are you taking so long? Come and have breakfast,” Mum’s voice came again, now tinged with irritation.
Anya offered her hand to help me up. Before we left the room, she gave me a comforting hug, which I sorely needed. Together, we headed downstairs for breakfast.
“Why did you two take so long?” Mum asked, her eyes narrowing at us.
Mum, usually a gentle soul, turned into a strict enforcer when it came to mealtimes.
Let me introduce Mum properly:
**AFRIN VIRAJ SHARMA**
Age: 40
She runs her own bakery, and Dad is her biggest supporter. Sometimes, it feels like she loves him a bit more than she loves me. She’s incredibly kind, but only Dad can calm her when she’s angry. She’s my best friend and greatest inspiration. And Yes my mom is a Muslim and My Dad is a Hindu. They had an intercaste marriage.Their mutual respect for each other’s religion is a powerful example of harmony.“Mumma, we were watching a movie and waited for it to end,” Anya explained while washing her hands.
“Mumma, have you eaten?” Anya and I asked simultaneously, making Mum smile.
“Aww, you two are so sweet,” she said, kissing our foreheads.
“Mumma, did Dad leave for the office early today?” I asked, scanning the room for him.
“Yes, Ruhi. He had an important meeting,” Mum replied, serving us more chapatis.
Mum sat beside us, decorating a cake for her bakery as we ate. I wanted to ask Mum for permission to go out, seeking a change from our current environment.
“Mumma, can I take Ruhi shopping? We’re both worn out from the exams and results,” Anya suggested, as if reading my mind.
“Yes, dear, but keep me updated,” Mum agreed immediately.
We went upstairs to get dressed. “What should I wear, Anu?” I asked, though I had a closet full of clothes.
“You look good in everything. Just pick something,” Anya said, making us both laugh.
I chose a dress and stared at my reflection in the mirror as I combed my hair, lost in thought. Anya’s voice called from downstairs.
RUHI'S LOOK
“Ruhi, come down. I’ll be in the car,” Anya said.
“Inu, you can’t let this sadness consume your life. Accept that Rahul doesn’t love you and move on,” I said to my reflection. Tears fell, but I wiped them away, forced a smile, and went downstairs.
“Mumma, Mummaaa, I’m heading out for shopping,” I called.
Mum emerged from the kitchen. “Okay, Ruhi, take care of yourself and Anu,” she said with a knowing smile, aware of my jealousy over her bond with Anya.
I rushed to the car and climbed in.
Anya eyed me. " you haven't put much makeup, then why do you take so long?,” she said.
“I was talking to Mum,” I lied.
Just as Anya was about to start the car, two familiar voices called out from behind.
“STOP! STOP, GUYS!”
