Z A Y N

Vegas - Joseline Hernandez

My mother called me and told me to come home. I had asked her what was wrong and why she wanted me home all of a sudden. She only told me to hurry home and hung up.

I opened the door to my house as I became more and more anxious by each step I took. The hallway was completely empty but I could see the light in the living room was on. Faint noises could be heard.

I wonder what it was that my mom wanted to talk about now. We had already 'talked' about the event at the Sky Hall. Maybe she forgot to mention something? Maybe it was just about some business project that she needed my help in?

My thoughts were interrupted by a deep, familiar voice from the living room, "Come here."

It was my dad.

My heart started beating faster and faster by each second that went by. I took slow steps towards the living room until I was finally in sight of my dad.

He was standing in the middle of the living room, his hands behind his back as he stared at me. If his expressions weren't terrifying enough, he was wearing a long, black coat with a black suit.

"Where were you at the event in Sky Hall?" He asked, his words strict. "With a friend." My voice was shakier than I expected.

My dad scoffed in response. "Friend? What friend of yours was there in my event?" His lips tilted into a smirk.

I knew what he was trying to say, that I would never make friends with businessmen. He has always looked down on me as well as my friends.

"I was with Aziz." I replied truthfully, my head now facing the ground. "Aziz Al-Sarraj?" He asked surprised. "I thought you never got along with him." He was right. My parents knew how much I despised to be with Aziz since childhood.

I didn't reply as he continued, "Whatsoever, your mother and I called you several times but you didn't respond." His voice was getting stricter and scarier. "My phone probably died." I lied.

"Do you think you can lie to your own father? I made you, I know exactly how you work and think." He was talking as if I was a robot. I didn't lift my head and instead just fiddled with my hands.

"My business partners were asking about you, my only son. Unfortunately, they didn't know how much of a disappointment my only son is." He continued as he took a few steps closer to where I was standing.

I knew what was coming.

"When I had specifically told you that you had to be there, do you think I meant for you to go and hang out with your friend?" He asked, now standing just a few steps in front of me.

"I was only gone for a while. I later came to look for you, but you had left." I lied again. I never looked for them but they didn't look for me either.

"We hadn't left." He stated. "I wanted to introduce you to some of my business partners for your future. You are going to take over my company someday, aren't you?" He asked although the answer was obvious in his eyes.

I'm his only child and only son. Of course I had to take over his company in the future. But did I want to? Absolutely not. I hadn't told him that yet, but I think he knew anyway.

"Then why weren't you there when I called for you?" He raised a brow. "I was with Aziz." I repeated, this time a bit more louder. "Is Aziz more important for you or this company?" He asked.

He probably thought my answer was obvious. But even I wasn't sure of what I said next, "Aziz." I looked my dad in the eyes.

He scoffed before raising his hand the next thing I knew was that my cheek was stinging with pain as my dad glared at me.
