The rain poured down heavily, drenching the roads in a relentless flood. Cars, scattered across the slick streets, crawled forward as if everyone was racing against the downpour, eager to reach the safety of their homes, a shelter to protect them from the storm.

But strangely, my heart found an odd, unexplainable comfort in the steady pitter-patter of the raindrops.

The sound-loud, clear, and constant-offered a refuge I didn't ask for, a temporary relief from the turmoil churning inside me.

To be honest, I never liked the rainy season. I despised getting wet for no reason.

But it was her favorite. As far back as I could remember, she loved the rain. And anything she loved, I found myself liking-whether I wanted to or not.

My car splashed through puddles as it sped down the road, water spraying in every direction.

Chase had called me earlier, and despite my usual distaste for that prick, I agreed to meet him. I needed a distraction. A distraction from her.

As I neared the outskirts of the city, the rain began to ease up. It was still falling, but not as heavily as it had been downtown.

My phone buzzed, and I picked it up without checking the screen.

"Bro!" Neil's voice rang out, cutting through the fading hum of traffic in the background.

"Don't tell me that dickhead called you too," I growled irritably into the receiver.

"Bro, he's been bugging me all day," Neil grumbled back.

My brows furrowed. "What the hell is his deal? Why the fuck is he gathering the crowd?"

"I don't know. Something about wanting to throw a party because you're finally back in town."
