Yeoreum had just gotten home from another hectic schedule and although she had somewhat celebrated her special day with her members earlier on, it still didn't feel like it was even her birthday.
Yeoreum walked to her room and got out of her clothes changing into her pajamas when her phone started to ring. It was Jonghyeop.
That's right. He hadn't even sent her a happy birthday message.
“Hello?” She said as she picked up the call. "Hey Reumi, can you come over please?" She sensed the urgency in his voice straight away.
What had happened? Was he okay? “Hyeop-ah, are you okay?” Yeoreum asked, starting to panic a bit. “Can you just get here as fast as you can?”
Before Yeoreum could ask any more questions, the call ended abruptly which made her put on her flip flops and grab her car keys.
She was doing two things she would never do on a normal day; go out in pajamas and drive. All for Jonghyeop.
As she got into the car, Yeoreum calmed herself down and tried to get rid of all the bad thoughts before starting the car. She opened up Google Maps putting in Jonghyeop's address.
After about 15 minutes, Yeoreum got to Jonghyeop's house and rushed out of her car to his front door. She knocked on the door multiple times before checking for a spare key. Then she remembered he kept his spare key under a plant pot. She lifted up the first plant and saw a tiny silver key.
She picked it up and jammed it into the keyhole, turning it to the right 2 times. The door quickly opened and Yeoreum walked in. Just as she did, the lights came on and beside her was Jonghyeop with a party hat on his head and a cake in his hands singing happy birthday.
Yeoreum burst into a joyful laughter at the sight. She was genuinely worried about him and here he was singing happy birthday to her.
"Happy birthday dear Yeoreum, happy birthday to you!" He finished extending the cake in her direction. Yeoreum smiled as she blew out the candles which read 31.
She was already 31. Wow, time flew by so fast.
Jonghyeop put down the cake and the next thing he did was put his arms around Yeoreum in the form of a hug. Yeoreum stood in place, shocked as she slowly turned into a tomato and her heart started to beat a lot faster.
"Are you okay?" Jonghyeop asked letting go of her. "What- wh-why wouldn't I be okay?" She stuttered. "Your heart's beating really fast." Jonghyeop pointed out and Yeoreum shook her head.
"That's because of you! You made me drive all the way here, I thought you were in actual danger!" Yeoreum used her complaint as a cover-up while she tried to calm herself and her heart down. She didn't even know why her heart was betraying her... she didn't like Jonghyeop.
"Sorry, it was the only way to get you here, without help from your members." He scratched the back of his head and Yeoreum shook her head, slowly starting to recollect herself and her emotions.
"I got you a gift." Jonghyeop picked up a white bag from the couch and handed it to her. Yeoreum's eyebrows raised in surprise. She opened the bag and got out the rectangular box that had the brand name Vivienne Westwood on it.
It was the platinum pink octavie choker she'd been wanting to get but hadn't had the time to.
"You actually bought it...?" She looked up at Jonghyeop, a wave of gratitude washing over her. Jonghyeop's lips curled into a smile and he nodded taking it out of the box and clipping it around her neck.
"It's pretty, just like you." He arranged her hair and Yeoreum went silent as her cheeks flushed a bright shade of pink. "Thank you so much, Hyeop-ah." She managed to say and Jonghyeop smiled, wrapping her in a much sweeter and more gentle hug.
Yeoreum hugged him back, the warmth of his body against hers comforting and reassuring.
"Now, sit down, I have more in store." He moved her to the couch and Yeoreum sat down, her pupils dilating as she looked up at Jonghyeop.
"You're like a little puppy." He patted her head before walking to his kitchen and Yeoreum's heart skipped a beat.
After about 10 minutes, Jonghyeop came back with a tray decorated with Yeoreum's favourite meal, sirloin steak, her chocolate flavoured birthday cake, strawberries covered in chocolate and two glasses of red wine.
"Oh my gosh, Hyeop-ah, you didn't need to do all of this!" Yeoreum stared in shock at how much he had prepared. Jonghyeop chuckled, sitting down beside her.
"Yes I did." He picked up the remote, turning his tv on. "Why?" Yeoreum asked, genuinely curious as to why he even cared about her so much. Was she really that special?
"Because it's you Reumi, I'd do anything for you." He said with sincerity in his eyes and Yeoreum's face flushed again, this time a deeper shade of pink.
The two stayed in silence until Jonghyeop chose a movie and played it. It was Yeoreum's favourite, The Princess Diaries.
"Here." He cut a piece of the cake and fed it to her before smiling at her. "Happy birthday Yeoreum-ah." He cleaned a side of her mouth with a tissue and in that moment, Yeoreum completely melted.
Succumbing to her feelings for Jonghyeop.
"Mm, thank you Hyeop-ah."
