Hooked on Love

With a slight giggle at her suddenly speechless friend, Kaitlyn smiled as she sat beside him before asking about how he was, and Lachlan was able to relax as they caught up with each other. As the two of them talked about things ranging from their daily lives to the differences and similarities between their worlds, Lachlan could feel his tail splashing the water with excitement and tried to stop himself, but Kaitlyn assured him that he was alright. When she added that it was cute to see him so happy, Lachlan blushed at Kaitlyn's compliment before they spent more time talking and laughing together. There were times when nothing was spoken between them, & even though neither of them was used to silence in their private lives, something about it felt comfortable while they were together.

Lachlan sighed happily as he gazed at his newest friend, and even though he wanted to tell her about his feelings, he was unsure if his words would scare her away. With that, he simply smiled at her before giggling as she rested her head on his shoulder, where they stayed as they watched the sunset from his spot. Since Kaitlyn was living on her own without a curfew, she didn't mind staying out late with Lachlan, so she smiled as they watched the sky turn into a multicolored masterpiece. As they sat together, Kaitlyn couldn't stop wondering if she herself was falling in love with Lachlan, unaware of his feelings for her. She had very little experience with romance in her life, but with how happy she was around Lachlan, it was kind of easy to tell that his feelings of love for her were mutual.

Just as the sky was getting darker, Lachlan asked Kaitlyn if she'd like to be followed on her boat ride home, and she agreed with a sigh as she thought about leaving her special friend. Understanding her disappointment, Lachlan promised that they would reunite soon, and Kaitlyn nodded before he helped her into her boat and gently pushed her away from the shore. As she paddled her way back home, Lachlan followed behind her and laughed as they sang along the way, and they soon reached the shore close to her home before too long. After watching Kaitlyn put her boat away beside her house, Lachlan was both surprised and delighted when he saw her running back to him, and she sat on the shore as he crawled over. As they were saying their goodbyes, Kaitlyn was surprised when Lachlan moved a little closer and asked if he could give her something, to which she nodded before asking him what it was.

"Well, um...there's something I read about in my Human Studies books that I want to try, but I want to make sure I have your permission first."

"Oh, of course, you have my permission! What is it, Lachlan?"

While reaching his hand up to feel her cheek, Lachlan pulled himself out of the water a little more before his lips gently touched hers, causing her breath to hitch before she returned the favor. The pleasure from their kiss was getting so strong that Kaitlyn found herself falling forward, but Lachlan was quick to catch her before laying them to the side, where they held each other in a warm embrace as they continued kissing. Other than the waves splashing around Kaitlyn's feet and Lachlan's tail, everything else was suspended in time at that moment, and Kaitlyn's heart was melting like a popsicle as they kissed. When they finally came up for air sometime later, neither of them knew what to say before their gasps for breath dissolved into soft giggles.

Somehow knowing what to say despite their speechlessness, Lachlan and Kaitlyn smiled as he helped her up before she waved goodbye to him, and he waved back as he watched her skip home. As soon as she was safely inside, Lachlan clutched his hands to his chest and smiled the widest smile he had ever shown before barrel-rolling his way into the water and swimming home, humming with delight as he realized that he was truly in love. The same could be said about Kaitlyn, who hugged her pillow and smiled as she fell asleep with daydreams of Lachlan, already looking forward to the next time they see each other.
