* sorry for such a short chapter*
Kat was mad. She was mad at her friends for being amazing friends. She was mad at her mom for breaking her promises, and she was mad at Mr. Darmon for not letting her purchase a plane ticket. Beks and Kat were sharing a room. Their hotel overlooked a small temple located at the bottom of the hill but the class took no notice of it.
When the two girls had gotten to their room, Kat locked herself in the bathroom concerning Beks greatly. After more than an hour, Beks gently tapped on the door and heard a slight click as Kat unlocked the door. Kat was sitting on the floor, her cheeks tear-streaked and her hazel eyes puffy and red. Beks didn't say anything as she knelt down beside her friend and enveloped her in her arms softly murmuring.
"You mom will be ok Kat, It's ok. She'll be fine. You don't have to worry Kat," she softly said as she stroked her friend's hair. "You know how Rose likes to exaggerate. I'm sure your mom isn't as bad as Rose makes it out to be," Beks said firmly. She knew Mrs.Cadell wasn't ok. Her mom called her on the airplane telling her about Kat's mom and she knew her mom doesn't exaggerate, but all she could do right now is to comfort her friend.
Kat's sniffling stopped. "You really think so, Beks?"
"Yes, she'll be home to greet you Kat," Beks confirmed. She hated lying to her friend but she also hated seeing Kat in this state. She handed Kat a tissue and turned on the water to dampen a cloth which Kat held to her face to calm the swelling and redness. Just then, a knock came from their hotel door.
Beks got up and checked who it was through the peephole before unlocking the door revealing one of their classmates.
"Mr. Darmon wants us all to meet in the lobby," she said before leaving Beks an Kat. Kat grabbed her backpack which had all the odds and ends in it before joining Beks in the hallway. The two walked down to the elevator passing a boy with dark hair and shining amber eyes. He glanced up as the girls passed him, a look of concern etched across his features when he spotted Kat's tear-streaked face. She nodded a greeting and followed Beks to the elevator.
I wonder who he is, he's kinda cute. Must be here on a family vacation, the thought passed as she walked into the tranquil elevator which had some soft saxophone jazz playing.
In the lobby, all the students were gathered around their teacher waiting for the straggling students.
"Alright, now that we have everyone—well...almost everyone, I'd like to go over the agenda for tonight."
Kat looked around trying to figure out who was missing. Of course it was Jordan and Asher.
"Since we still have a couple hours until supper here at the hotel is served, I'm going to let you go out and maybe go shopping or whatever you guys like doing," Mr. Darmon said. As a few of the girls excitedly giggled.
"However—" the giggling stopped abruptly. Whenever a teacher says however there is always a catch. "However, since Athens is huge, I don't want you students going any farther than the shops and restaurants that surround this hotel. And you'll be put into groups of four of your choice." There was a chaotic scramble as girls and boys tried to grab their bestfriend and stay away from the annoying kids.
Kat and Beks partnered up then looked for other available pairs. Unfortunately, the rest of the crowd had found their groups and departed from the hotel which left the two girls and Mr. Darmon.
"Ugh...I hope Mr. Darmon won't want to go with us," whispered Beks.
"I heard that but no, I won't be joining you. However, you two won't be allowed to go out unless you have found two other classmates who join you. Oh and before I forget, speaking of which....." his sentence got cut off for at that moment, the elevator doors opened and out tumbled two boys. Beks and Kat groaned simultaneously as they saw who it was.
Jordan and Asher were in such a hurry to get out of the elevator thinking they had missed the group, that Asher tripped over Jordan's feet as he ran out, successfully falling painfully on his rear. Jordan, oblivious as always, did not see his cousin fall and managed to fall over Asher's body which was sprawled out on the floor. It was quite a comical sight with the elevator music softly playing classical in the background. Mr. Darmon's eyebrows rose at least a foot above his eyes as he observed the fiasco and a nearby cleaning maid looked on in horror— Jordan was holding a pop and spilled it all over the carpet floor when he fell.
Kat also noticed the boy who she saw in hallway, had observed the whole catastrophe with a grin plastered on his face.
"Welp, ladies hope you have fun with these two clowns," chuckled their teacher as he turned to go up to his room.
Kat and Beks stared at the boys who were still on the floor and if looks could kill—the two culprits would be dead.
Jordan and Asher gave them weak smiles before clambering up.
"So...um...what's the plan?"
