♡George pov♡
Clay and I were in the car on the way to his parents' house. He kept fidgeting and biting the sides of his fingers to the point they bled.
"Baby, it's gonna be okay." I assured him.
I grabbed his hand, intertwining our fingers and resting them on the inside of my thigh. He squeezed my hand.
"I don't know." He mumbled.
"Well, stop biting your fingers. You're bleeding again." I said, examining his finger.
I grabbed a bandaid from the center console and wrapped it around his finger. There were 2 bandaids on his other hand.
"It's gonna be okay. Let's just stick to our plan. It'll be okay." I told him.
He shrugged.
"I have to pee." He stated.
This is the 3rd time he's said that. He keeps chugging his water as a nervous habit, which isn't the worst habit ever. At least he's staying hydrated. He pulled into the nearest gas station. It looked ghetto and scary.
"I'm coming in with you." I told him.
He parked, and we got out. There were 2 old white dudes sitting on a bench in front of the gas station. They were smoking and talking. They looked at us weirdly. I felt a shiver run up my back.
I hate this already.
Clay grabbed my hand, and we went inside. There were more old guys in here. They were drinking and talking. It was obviously a small town thing. The guys looked at us weird, some staring in disgust.
"Where's the bathroom?" I asked confidently as Clay seemed nervous.
The man behind the counter pointed to a hallway. Clay and I went down the hall to the bathroom. It wasn't stalls, but we went in together anyway. I locked the door and sighed. He began to slide down his sweatpants.
"This place creeps me out." I stated.
"Turn around, weirdo." He demanded.
"It was literally inside me but whatever." I mumbled, rolling my eyes.
He shot a playful glare my way with a smile. I smiled and turned my back to him to at least give him a little privacy.
"This place is kinda scary. Those guys were looking at us weird." Clay pointed out.
"Yeah, probably cause we were holding hands." I said.
"I didn't like it. It made me uncomfortable." He stated.
I soon heard the toilet flush, and I turned around as he began washing his hands.
"We should just leave as fast as possible." I said.
He nodded in agreement. He dried his hands, and we left the bathroom. He grabbed my hand, and we went down the hallway. We quickly walked past the men and out of the gas station. Clay stopped suddenly, and I did as well. The word 'faggots' was written across the hood of the car. The men behind us laughed. Clay seemed speechless.
"Clay, it's fine. We're not doing anything wrong." I told him.
The men continued laughing. Clay seemed so upset, and I didn't know what to say to comfort him. We heard the gas station door open.
"Is there a problem, boys? Is your car not starting?"
I turned around to see the guy behind the counter. 2 other guys lurked behind him. The other 2 were still laughing.
"What the hell are you laughing about?" The cashier asked.
He walked over, and his eyes ran over the word on Clay's car. The cashier turned towards the laughing men.
