Vida Rose Marlowe was only seven years old when her mother passed.
Cancer. That's what the doctors had said.
Gabrielle Marlowe died at the age of 35, leaving both her daughter and her husband.
Vida would often cry herself to sleep as she clutched onto the pearl locket that had belonged to her mother every night.
Vida's father, Evan, began working more. He was a guard on the Ark and often took night shifts, leaving his daughter alone, but he worked hard to make sure he could give her what she wanted.
Vida loved her father with all her heart, and tried her best to make him proud, but she grew into a troubled girl without her mother to guide her.
At the age of 15, Vida was arrested for doing drugs with her friends, Monty and Jasper. When getting caught she fought back and assaulted a guard as well.
She spent the days in her cell, reflecting on her crimes.
Her father visited, but he could not stay for long most times. But on the rare occasions where he would have a shift guarding the prisoners he'd make sure to stand at the door of her cell and talk to her.
He'd speak to her about her mother, filling her mind with memories of her.
Vida had been told often by both her parents that her name meant life. Her mother had wanted her daughter to be full of life, a good one.
But Vida Rose was devoid of all hope.
She knew she'd be gone soon. Once she turned 18 she'd be floated.
So much for life.
