The school gym was buzzing with lights, music, and a sea of teenagers dressed in their finest attire. Kristel, standing beside Lily, felt a nervous flutter in her stomach. She was actually going to the dance with Kyou. She had never been so excited about a dance before, and she couldn't wait to see him again.
Lily, ever the supportive friend, squeezed Kristel's hand. "You look amazing," she whispered, her eyes sparkling with admiration. "He's going to be so lucky."
Kristel blushed. She had tried to dress up a little, but she wasn't sure if she had pulled it off. She was still a little nervous about meeting Kyou's friends, but she was determined to have a good time.
As the music started, Kristel scanned the crowd, searching for Kyou. There he was, standing near the snack bar, talking to a group of friends. He looked different in his dress clothes, his hair slicked back, his eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint. He was even more handsome than she had imagined.
She felt a wave of heat rush through her cheeks as she caught his eye. He smiled, a warm, genuine smile that made her heart skip a beat. He beckoned her over, and she felt a surge of excitement as she walked towards him.
"Hey," she said, a nervous laugh escaping her lips. "You look good."
"You too," Kyou said, his voice a little deeper than usual. "You look beautiful."
Kristel blushed again, feeling a warmth spread through her chest.
Just then, a familiar voice interrupted their conversation. "Kristel? Is that you?"
Kristel turned to see Jason standing behind her, a frown etched across his face. He was wearing his usual arrogant smirk, and his eyes were narrowed in suspicion.
"Jason," Kristel said, trying to sound polite. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you," Jason said, his voice laced with a possessive edge. "I thought we were going to the dance together."
"Oh, right," Kristel said, feeling a pang of guilt. She had forgotten to tell Jason that she wasn't going with him anymore.
"Who's this?" Jason asked, his gaze shifting to Kyou. "Your new boyfriend?"
Kyou's eyes narrowed. "Actually, I'm not her boyfriend," he said, his voice calm but firm. "We're just friends."
Jason scoffed. "Friends, huh? Well, I hope you know that she's still my girlfriend."
"Jason, please," Kristel said, feeling increasingly uncomfortable. "We need to talk."
"We'll talk later," Jason said, his voice hardening. "But you're not going anywhere with this guy."
He stepped closer to Kyou, his face inches from his. "You better stay away from her," he warned, his voice a low growl. "She's mine."
Kyou stood his ground, his eyes blazing with defiance. "She's not yours," he said, his voice surprisingly steady. "She's free to choose who she wants to be with."
The tension in the room was palpable. Kristel felt trapped between two boys, both of whom she cared about in different ways. She knew she had to make a choice, but she wasn't sure what to do.
The music seemed to fade into the background as the tension in the room reached a fever pitch. Kristel felt her heart pounding in her chest, but she knew she had to do something. She couldn't let Jason bully Kyou, and she couldn't let him control her life any longer.
Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward, her gaze locking with Jason's. "Jason, this is ridiculous," she said, her voice firm and clear. "We're done. I'm not your girlfriend anymore."
The room fell silent. Everyone stopped dancing and turned to watch the unfolding drama. Jason's jaw dropped in shock, and his face flushed red.
"What?" he sputtered, his voice barely a whisper. "You can't just break up with me like that."
"Why not?" Kristel asked, her voice unwavering. "I'm not happy, and you're not treating me with respect. I deserve better than that."
"But we're perfect together," Jason said, his voice rising in desperation. "Everyone thinks so."
"Everyone doesn't matter," Kristel said, her voice gaining strength. "Only I matter. And I'm done."
She turned to Kyou, her eyes shining with a newfound confidence. "Come on," she said, reaching out for his hand. "Let's dance."
Kyou, who had been watching the scene unfold with a mixture of admiration and concern, took her hand and smiled. "Let's go," he said, his voice filled with a quiet determination.
As Kristel and Kyou walked away, Jason stood there, his face a mask of fury and disbelief. He had never been rejected before, especially not in front of so many people.
The crowd erupted in applause and cheers as Kristel and Kyou took to the dance floor. They didn't even bother to try to dance properly; they just held each other close, swaying to the music, their eyes locked in a silent conversation.
Kristel felt a sense of liberation she had never experienced before. She had broken free from Jason's controlling influence, and she had taken a step towards something new and exciting.
