Kaelyn

I pushed open the tinted glass doors and was hit instantly by the sun. I grinned; it was good to be outside after being trapped inside for six whole hours. I marched down the marbled steps and walked towards the guards booths. It was standard procedure for us to be checked immediately after school. That was one thing I knew I would never get. Did they think that we would somehow manage to switch identities during the spaces of time between the beginning and end of school or worse did they feel that I would be kidnapped and someone else would assume my identity?

Will the real Kaelyn Winters please stand up?

I chuckled at my thoughts.

I joined the line behind all of the other students and waited. The line was moving rather quickly, faster than usual actually but today was Friday I couldn’t blame them for wanting to get us out of here so they could leave.

I stuck out my hand and waited for the guard inside the booth to raise his scanner but instead he motioned to someone behind him and second later I was captured by another one of  them.

He gripped me by my arms refusing to let me go. I struggled and fidgeted in an attempt to escape but he was too strong for me. The eyes of the others followed my every move and their whispers surrounded me overpowering my thoughts.

No one made a move to help me I didn’t expect them to anyways. Fear was a strong thing and when enforced it was a dangerous weapon. We were submitted to them, willing to agree to everything and anything they could think of. And regardless of how hard they pushed us, how hard we felt like shoving back we didn’t do anything but accept it like it was our fate. We were all afraid of disappearing and never coming back so as the guards dragged me off like some sort of ragdoll I stopped fighting and just let them take me to who knows where.

The whispers died down a bit and judging by the looks of approval from the others I knew that I had done the right thing. Submission was the key and anything and I mean anything was better than disappearing like- like Phoenix.

Someone’s hand covered my eyes and for a second I saw nothing but blackness. With my eyes covered my senses were heightened and I could hear the distinct sound of my captor’s heartbeat. Boom Boom Boom .I found the sound strangely comforting and allowed myself to relax more. I didn’t even flinch when he threw me over his shoulder.

We walked down a long corridor until he stopped suddenly. I could hear the sound of a door opening and seconds later I was face down lying on the floor. I tried to get up but he restrained me tying me down to the floor with his arms. Something covered my eyes again but this time I knew it wasn’t a hand. It was wet and soft and I could smell the cologne which covered it. Maybe it was a washcloth or a bandana but I couldn’t be sure.

“Stay here,” said a voice sternly.

I could hear the underlying threat disappear and you’re dead. It’s not like I was planning to go anywhere. I couldn’t even see?! Where was I even going to go? I had no idea how I even got into this room?

I heard the sound of a door closing and I shifted my position in an effort to get comfortable I had a feeling I was going to be here or a while.

I could hear the sound of water dripping from somewhere around me. Soon that was overpowered by the sound of water flowing through metal pipes. Something cold and wet landed on my cheek and I flinched. I brushed it off my cheek. Cold hard floors and dripping water pipes? I had a feeling that I was trapped in the school’s basement but the thing was I didn’t even remember walking down stairs.
