The dimly lit room buzzed with the low hum of conversation as the nightshift team from the other sectors gathered around a cluttered table, the worn deck of cards spread out before us, to get ready for an hopefully uneventful shift.
I went out with my friends last night, which wasn't a great idea considering how heavily my head was pounding, as the laughter grew louder.
"Prepare to lose, ladies!" Colin from sector A taunted, his fingers deftly shuffling the cards, before handing them out.
"You call that a hand?" another quipped, his grin wide as he surveyed his cards. "I've seen better hands on a clock."
A pack of cigarettes made the rounds and I took one pulling out my well worn out lighter, trying to flip it alive.
"That looks as old as you are" Max teased, a college in my sector and I whacked his head with it causing him to let out a groan as I held him down.
"You're under my command, when no higher ups are here"
"Sorry my lord, I forgot" Way better. I held out my cigarette and he lit it with the tip of his own, the smoke immediately becoming a comforting blanket against my headache.
Just like that the room was filled with a smoky haze and a conversation going on about whose wife was the best fuck among the married.
"She's really obedient..." Tommy laughed as he spilled all his secrets in the bedroom with his wife. "...body like rubber, I can do whatever I want."
I took a long drag of my cigarette, the familiar sting of nicotine a brief reprieve from the mental image his words conjured.
"Is she into threesomes?" Colin asked and I also looked up from my cards, wanting to know if married people did freaky stuff like that.
I would be definitely into that. I hated being with the same woman more than once. That's exactly the reason why I wasn't married in my thirties.
"She does everything I tell her. If I want an orgy she will want it too." he boasted his laughter as crude as his words and I watched as our younger colleges almost drooled at the thought of it.
"I'm getting hard, are you down?" Colin declared, his voice thick with anticipation.
"You'll have to grow a few feet taller to be able to handle my girl" he replied patting his head in a mocking way, then pointing a finger at me. "Would you be down Kiro? She likes it rough."
I met his eyes, my expression flat. "I'll pass." I replied, my tone final. Homewrecking wasn't exactly on my to-do list and doing anything with Tommy would only be a nightmare. He was probably into man on man actions and the thought alone made my skin crawl.
