Moving cautiously through the forest, Sora glanced up to see the moon covered in a surreal pearl-like glow, its dim light managing to pass through the thick canopy of leaves above her head. Lifting her arm, Sora realized that the moon's glow was softly brushed against her own skin, making her lift a brow up in slight surprise since she had never seen moonbeams shine like that.

Checking the time on her watch, Sora realized hours had passed by since she began tracking Choso's two friends. Making sure to keep a reasonable distance in order to conceal her presence, Sora could be assured that they wouldn't see her. After all, Sora didn't need to physically see them in order to pursue them. She could be miles away if she wanted and she would still know their exact location because all she had to do was look at the wisps of cursed energy they left behind.

This was due to Sora's ability to read the unique structure of anyone's cursed energy and keep a small amount of it inside of her body if she wanted to track someone.

Cursed energy was a core element of a soul as far as Sora knew, a principle that she had shared with Geto who had been immensely piqued by such a concept, one that he had scarce knowledge of. After days of going over different hypothesis of what a soul truly consisted of and how it could be manipulated alongside Geto and Mahito, Sora began understanding her own technique little by little. After consistent debating with both males, Sora had  finally given a name to that soul matter, essence.

They had only been able to label it as a different concept after she had conversed with Mahito who also believed that every living being had a soul.

But not everyone had essence.

Essence was a soul that coexisted with cursed energy in order to exist. Since Mahito was the only other person with a technique that grasped the power of the soul, Sora often found herself accompanying the male who liked talking about means that could elevate his own technique.

Despite their little discovery, Sora knew she had still much to learn and to figure out.

Hearing the sound of small animals skittering away for protection now that predators were out for the hunt, Sora was pulled away from her own thoughts, trudging along the insect-plagued ground in silence. The silence made her wonder if Choso's partners would succeed in their mission.

Just then, a strong gush of air swooped above her, rustling the leaves and branches momentarily before everything became still once more. Due to its abruptness, Sora knew it had not been caused by the natural flow of air. A few seconds later, a small shockwave coursed through the ground below her feet and another one followed.
