A defense that caused questions

Marcus raised his hand, as if he were blocking my words

"Just call me Marcus." His voice had only gotten smoother. I took the time to drink him in. His long wavy brown hair was down, presenting his beauty proudly with the correspondence of the black suit he wore. A truly majestic combination, on him Atleast.

His wrinkles had smoothed out some, he looked several years younger once again. Now, he looked 25 instead of 40 like I first believed.

"Okay Marcus."

He cracked a crooked smile, and motioned towards the empty chair on my balcony. "May I sit down?"

"Of course."

With a snap, my knees gave in. The balcony chair screeched as I held onto the armrests to try stabilize my drop. I glanced at Marcus, who was staring at me while approaching the chair Kyung-Mi once sat at. Ugh. If I were mortal, I'd be flushed bright red.

"So, master what being you here." I try to initiate conversation.

His eyes, a crimson red. Were staring at mine. He made no move to tear his gaze away, or hide the cheeky grin he had on his face.

"I'm afraid I came here for a rather uncharacteristic and peculiar reason."

I coax an eyebrow, waiting for him to move his eyes anywhere but me so I could remove my burned feet from behind the thick railing and tuck it underneath my legs unsuspiciously.

"I've come here, instead of my brother, to warn you of our covens rules."

I frown. Had I broken an unspoken rule already?

"Unless mated, do not converse in intimate  relations with coven members of the opposite sex. Specifically, not inside the castle."

My eyes widened "I-I'm sorry master."

"Don't apologize. I personally understand your..hormonal needs. However I cannot say I have done the same."

I put my face in my hands. Embarrassed, and wishing I could tell him who I was really thinking about.

"It won't happen again master, my apologies for breaking the rules."

The angel simply stared. Pondering what he should say. His teeth grinded together and his eyes squinted.

"..I liked your book." He spoke.

"Thank you. I put quite a lot of work into that."

"I can tell. Have you published any other books?"

If I was mortal with blood in my icy veins, my cheeks would have flushed at his subtle praise. However to my inconsistent good luck, I had no blood. So fortunately, my superb (not really) acting skills made it almost impossible for Marcus to realize that I was flustered. (Marcus currently has a sly smirk on his face and most definitely knows about my current emotional state.)

"Yes, I've published many books. Though, if I named them all we would be here for the rest of the day."

"I'm okay with that."

You little prick of an angel.

I chuckled, and shook my head.

"So have we moved our rooftop conversations to my balcony? Or will this be a one time thing?"

Marcus crossed his arms and pretended to think, placing a hand on his chin and looking towards the hills. I saw the chance to tuck my feet behind me and took it graciously.
