A week has passed. I have not seen Marcus once, nor has a trial took place. I've spent several days pacing my room, and the castle in a chance I would see Marcus walking down the hall with his brothers. Yet my actions were insufficient. As fate didn't intertwine our physical paths. Not once.
Things have gotten awkward between me and Demetri. Well, awkward for me actually. Demetri seems to enjoy my presence and is very fluent in conversation.
Now, for the past hour- ive been in the guard room playing chess with a dread headed man, who was in the trial. By the name of Santiago. He was nice. He was kind of quiet, but so was I.
I watched as he studied the chess board, and then moved his Bishop diagonal two spaces, into a place where he could check my queen, and I would not be able to reach him in time. A smart move. Predictable aswell.
He had a smug look in his eye, like he beat me. Granted, he had checked out almost all of my pieces, but I did that on purpose. As he failed to notice my rook that was perfectly positioned for a checkmate.
I reached my slender fingers across the board, and realization hit him when he saw my finger tips latch onto the chess piece, and move it 6 spaces to the side. I knocked over his king right as the words left my mouth.
"Checkmate."
"You fucking bitch." He smiled.
I laughed. My hair, (which was a French twist 2 hours ago.) was now a loose braid, that hung over my shoulder and touched my mid stomach, its auburn strands falling over the spruce table.
Suddenly, and loudly. A chair screeched beside us. A new chair, placed down and scooted towards table. A chair that held Kyung- Mi.
"Why didn't he ask?" She bluntly asked.
"Context? Please?"
She pursed her lips together, for just a moment.
"Why didn't Aro ask you to use your gift on Bella. If she confounds all mental attacks, why didn't he ask you?""It took you this long to ask that?"
"Answer."
I nodded slowly. "He knows-"
"I would like an answer aswell. Oh, did I interrupt? Sorry." Santiago whispered.
I waved my hand, as if brushing off his interruption .
"My gift is more physical. It works by atoms. I manipulate the atoms that connect your mind, to the air around us, to me. And I manipulate them to be at my will. So if I wanted you to fall over right now, I would connect our atoms together, like an invisible line you can't see. And I would control them, physically doing what I want you to. So, it would've worked on her anyways. Aro knows that."
It was silent for a few moments before Santiago spoke. "It sounds hard."
I chuckled. "It's not nearly as hard after a few years. Now, especially, it feels like second nature. It just feels like a click, a shift in control. Then a ringing. Then my commands."
Santiago nodded. "I don't really have a gift. I'm stronger than most immortals, and skilled in combat. But that's simply because I was an Aztec."
I paused, freezing in place just as Kyung-mi did.
"..Aztec? The bloodthirsty mesoamerican civilization.? Renowned for their bloodthirsty warriors and their penchant for human sacrifice?" Kyung-Mi muttered
