The Rescue team was always a tight-knit team. They were practically like a family, always caring and looking after each other no matter what.
Roy and Amber were close. Even though Roy hangs out with Poli more often, they bonded over their similarities and scolded each other for getting injured.
Roy looks out for Amber if no one else would, and vice versa. Emotionally, they were very close. Physically though, they continue to watch over each other from a distance. They don't really have time to interact much aside from missions and even then their interactions are scarce, focusing more on the rescue than anything.
So imagine Amber's surprise when Roy kisses her on the forehead completely unprompted.
He leaves for his patrols completely normal, possibly being unaware of the action while Amber struggles to comprehend what actually just happened.
Let's start this from the beginning. It was Amber's day off, given Jin needed to do an early maintenance check on her ambulance, and she had been working quite a lot lately anyway. She was waving Roy and Poli goodbye when Roy forgot his handkerchief and asked Amber to go get it for him.
When she returned to hand him the piece of fabric over to him... he... kissed her. On the forehead. He thanked her, like it was a completely natural thing to do and left, as if they were a married couple—
Amber blinks again, placing her hands on her face to confirm that yep, her cheeks are dangerously warm, and she doesn't think the temperature will ever go down. She gingerly brushes her fingertips against where Roy's lips were less than a minute ago—
She felt like a little school girl getting flustered over the fact her crush gave her the slightest attention.
She takes a deep breath in. Okay. Maybe Roy did it by accident. Maybe he was a little sleepy and acted on his impulses, or some sort of weird subconscious—
But that implies something, something that makes Amber's stomach explode with butterflies. Something that she chooses not to believe. Something that could probably screw over the Rescue Team.
No matter how she tried to justify it, it felt like it all reached the same conclusion. And it felt both delightful and very dreadful at the same time.
"Amber! There you are!" Jin yells out, ending her train of thought. Amber lets out an embarrassing squeak as she's realized she's been standing there for too long.
"S-Sorry, Jin!" She sheepishly apologizes. Jin raises an eyebrow, scanning her face. Amber feels nervous all of a sudden, is there something on her face?
"Amber, do you have a fever?"
Ah.
"A-Ah, no! It's just a little hot, that's all."
"Oh! You should probably go inside, then. I'll have to inspect your ambulance and—"
Without thinking twice, Amber rushes back into the Rescue Center to think about what just happened again. To think about her realization once more.

—Wanted to melt into the floor. He wanted to just jump in the fire he puts out so regularly.
Somehow, he only seems to realize in the middle of inspecting fire hydrants that he kissed Amber. He kissed her. On the forehead, sure, but he still kissed her.
He went as red as his hair alarmingly fast, to the point Posty asked if he was alright. The latter mentioned they could call Amber to help which did not help Roy's case at all.
