Le Beicheng placed the bundle on the bed and carefully opened it. Zhao Yunchu, watching from the side, saw that inside was a set of floral cotton clothes—a jacket and pants.

In her original era, these would have been considered quite outdated. But in the 1970s, they were quite fashionable. The clothes were almost new and appeared very clean. Despite their somewhat old-fashioned style, they were far better than continuing to wear the dirty clothes she had been in.

Earlier, when she woke up, she noticed a sour smell. Only when she was washing her face did she realize it was coming from herself.

Le Beicheng took out the clothes and unfolded them. He compared them briefly and said, "These clothes were worn by Grandma Wu when she was young. She knew I was getting clothes for you, so she asked me to bring these. She said it's for your dowry..."

Dowry?

Zhao Yunchu looked at the floral outfit and wondered how one set of clothes could be considered a dowry.

She remembered a bit about Grandma Wu. The old lady was a widower in the village. After her husband passed away, she never remarried. She treated the village children as her own and was a kind, elderly woman in her seventies.

"Please thank Grandma Wu for me. She is alone and without family. These clothes must be her most cherished possessions," Zhao Yunchu said thoughtfully.

Le Beicheng, relieved to see Zhao Yunchu accepting the clothes, responded, "I've already thanked her. When I have time, I'll go hunting and bring her some game as a token of my gratitude."

"I'll go out for a bit. You change into the clothes while I'm gone," he added before leaving the room and shutting the door behind him.

Zhao Yunchu began changing into the new clothes. Once she had removed her old garments, she took a moment to look at herself. Her skin was very pale, and her chest was only just beginning to develop due to poor nutrition. She wondered if eating more in the future would help remedy this.

She thought about her previous life, where she had a much fuller figure.

After changing into the new clothes, Zhao Yunchu tried to see her reflection, but the room had no mirror—just old, paper-covered windows instead of glass. There was no way to see how she looked.

"Are you done changing?" Le Beicheng called from outside, eager to see what Zhao Yunchu looked like in the new clothes.

Zhao Yunchu, holding onto the edge of the bed, sat back down and replied, "You can come in now. I'm dressed."

When Le Beicheng entered the room, his eyes lit up as he took in the sight of Zhao Yunchu sitting on the bed in her new clothes. The transformation was striking. If he hadn't seen her before, he might not have recognized her now.

Zhao Yunchu noticed the admiration in Le Beicheng's eyes and felt relieved. It seemed that her appearance wasn't too shocking after all.

"Le Beicheng, I want to go back to my old home. Can you accompany me?" Zhao Yunchu asked. As the new owner of this body, her first priority was to reclaim the house and land from the original owner's family.

Le Beicheng hesitated, his mind immediately jumping to the Zhao family. The thought of them brought back memories of that chaotic day. If he weren't a soldier, he would have already taken more direct action against them.

Le Beicheng said, "Are you sure you want to go back today? Your body is still weak, and I'm worried it might be too much of a strain. You know how they are—unpredictable and unruly..."
