"Ladies first." The male says, causing me to lose my track of thought.
I take a sip from my vodka-tonic, breaking away from his stare. "What do you do for work?" I ask, unsure of where the man was taking such with the questions. Clinton almost looked at me with a tinge of boredom, it definitely wasn't the type of question he thought I was going to ask...
"I'm in a band, that's my main area of expertise. I edit, I write, I sell drugs on the side to make a little extra bank." His tongue ran against his lower lip, collecting the drops of whiskey upon his lower lip. "What about you?" He laid back against his chair, tilting his head to the side. "I work in a café in town, anything to pay my rent really," This was a lie, I just wanted to seem just like any normal girl my age, even if the facade would last an hour or so. "But I write on the side to pass away the time." He held a quaint expression on his face, interested in what I was saying. "You write?" Clinton paused, pursing his lips, "What about?"
I glance up from my glass and give him a crooked smile, "Romance mostly, the occasional sex scene, some horror." I elaborate, his eyes lighting up at the latter. "Forgive me if this sounds... what's the word? Pervy?" He mutters into his whiskey glass, taking a prolonged sip, and swallowing it down with a drag from his cigarette. "Have you ever had sex?" My cheeks flush a bright red hue, biting my lip. "I've thought about it a lot if that counts?" Clinton chuckles a bit, cocking his brow up.
"How much?" This topic seemed to have piqued his interest, and the fact that it did sent electricity down to my core. Something felt different when an older man took interest. "No more than any other person. Do you think about it?" I question, tucking back a brunette lock behind my ear. Clinton replies with a simple smirk, telling me all I need to know. "I do," Silence. "A lot."
If my cheeks could burn any brighter, I'd be a glow stick. He could tell I was out of my depth and I believe he wholeheartedly enjoyed it. He held that smirk proudly, inspecting my state thoroughly with his delightful warm brown eyes.
"Oh." I swallow my coyness with a sip of my alcoholic mix. "Why haven't you done anything? Pretty girl like you would have to bat away the boys with a stick, right?" The Australian compliments, leaving me speechless for a moment. "I suppose, most only want me for my father's attention." I wasn't wrong when I said this, people care more about my last name than anything else, sometimes I wished I wasn't a Turner, maybe I wouldn't have this great big target on my back saying "Come over here! Make a fool out of me for my father's approval!" It made me sick.
"Oh? Is he famous or something? Would I know him?" He remarked, shifting in his seat almost in anticipation. I bite my lip deeper almost in an attempt to hide my words, instead, I reply with a nod. "You could say that," I take a bigger gulp of my drink and swallow it down. "His name is Charles, Charles Turner." And with those six little words, I see all emotion drain from his face. "C-Charles Turner?" I grew worried about his stutter, he's going to be just like every other male, isn't he?
"Give me a moment, sweetheart. Would you like a refill?" He didn't even give me time to answer, swiftly grabbing my empty glass. Is he nervous? "Thank you... Um, is everything okay?" Finally, a crack of a smile appeared on his face, spotting his nod. "Smoke break, darlin', I'm dyin' for a cig." And with that, he left me alone to tend to my aching thoughts.

Marie's last words echo through my mind and I see red. Charles Turner... the stupid idiot who is ruining my life, my job and everything I live for. That six-story building in the middle of town is the only place I feel comfortable performing my business, and that silly old man is destroying it, turning it into student housing. That's not happening, no, not on my watch.
