Just a sweet story I thought of, inspired by a poem i'm studying

I pulled the cupcake tray out of the oven and set it on the side, turning my head away at the heat. Admiring them, I started to decorate them.

I added little cat ears, whiskers, and tails, turning them into kitties of all different colours. I grinned, proud of my work, and put them into a small box to take them over to Lynette's.

She always wonder why I'm so insistent on delivering them myself. I say it's no issue and I don't wanna waste her time, but really, I just wanna see her.

I opened the front door and set off on my trek to Lyney and Lynette's house. I followed the familiar path, watching all the people go about their way of life. Eventually, the sky started to turn grey.

Frowning, I sped up my pace as I still had 10 more minutes to walk. The sky got darker and darker, until it started raining. I sped up even more, wanting to get to Lynette's faster.

Suddenly, the rain got 100x harder, and I was soaked in a matter of seconds. I begun to sprint, not carinf about getting tired anymore. I was more worried about the cupcakes and tried sheltering them with my hands.

I eventually arrived at their house, knocked at the door. Lynette opened the door and was shocked to see me there, looking like a drowned rat.

"Oh my, y/n! Come in, let's warm you up." She said, concerned, and invited me in. She soon left to get a towel as I stood in her living room, dripping wet.

I took off my shoes just as Lynette came back and she wrapped a towel around me.

"Come to my room, I'll get you some clothes to change into"

I shivered as I followed Lynette into her room. She handed me some spare pyjamas of hers and I went to the bathroom to change.

I came out a few minutes later, now with dry clothes but wet hair and shivering cold.

"Lynette, could you help me dry my hair please?" I asked shyly. She agreed and I sat on her bed.

She sat next to me, using the towel to gently dry my hair. Lynette then grabbed a hairbrush and gently brushed my hair to get the water out. I shut my eyes and relaxed as she did so. By the time she was done, I was almost asleep.

"All done! So, how come you're here?" I turned to face her, still shaking from the cold.

"Well.. I baked you some cupcakes! Don't worry, they're not too wet" She giggled at me, saying she cared more for me than some cupcakes.

I asked to get in her bed to warm up and she agreed. I cuddled up in her bed, feeling the warmth of her blankets.

"I'll be back in a moment" She said, and I hummed cosily.

She returned 5 minutes later with 2 hot chocolated and passed one for me. I sat up and practically chugged the whole thing as soon as it cooled down enough.

"That was so good! I need your hot chocolate recipe sometime" I laughed and she smiled gently as she drank her hot chocolate.

We continued talking as she finished her drink. Well, it was mostly me ranting to her about how I've been. I suddenly got a burst of confidence and asked her something.

"I-I know this is weird so uh.. feel free to say no but.. maybe do you wanna.. uh.. can you lay with me so I can warm up?" I hid my face in my hands as all confidence left me and I wanted to disappear.

I grew nervous as I didn't hear a response, instead a quiet giggle and the blankets moving. I looked up and saw her getting into bed next to me. I smiled at her and she smiled sweetly back.

Lynette laid down and I did next to her. My head found itself slowly leaning on her, and she let me. I sighed in relief and let it rest there, my heart fluttering.

"Are you okay? I can hear your heartbeat" She gently put a hand over my heart, only causing it to beat faster. I felt my face begin to heat up as I tried to come up with an excuse.

"Well.... I- Uh. I uh. It's nothing" I laughed nervously.

Lynette propped herself up on one elbow and looked down at me. She seemed to gain some confidence as she saw me blush, as I lost mine.

"Awh, you're blushing. Am I just making you nervous?" She smiled at me, almost taunting me as she stayed so calm.

"I.. Shut up" I mumbled as I found myself at a loss for words.

I felt the blanets shift as she layed back down next to me. This time, she wrapped her arms around me and pulled me in towards her, caressing my hair softly.

My heart fluttered and I relaxed myself in her arms. I heard the rain turn into a storm, and it seemed we both accepted I was staying the night.

I wrapped my arms around her and let myself slowly drift to sleep. I often found the thunder scared me. Yet the loud noises could currently do nothing to me, as I knew I was safest in her arms.
