Micah
"There seems to be some light traffic in the downtown area, with a minor crash on Elwood Boulevard." The car radio blared out as Micah set off on his journey. "Now moving on to Rachel with our weekly forecast!"
Micah let out a heavy yawn as he came to a stop at the red light. The lack of sleep was slowly catching up to him. Recently he's picked up on a bad sleeping schedule. He was staying up late to finish some paperwork and waking up early in the morning. Constant yawns and dozing off have become a new part of his morning commute.
In the back of his mind, he could hear his mother scolding him for staying up so late and drowning himself in work. He could just imagine the look she'd give him. A look of concern mixed with judgment and the occasional waterworks.
Ever since he entered college, she had been worried sick over his health and wellbeing. She constantly prayed for her beloved son and gave him as many home remedies as it took to satisfy a winter cold. Even now she continues to worry.
The whole family seemed to worry about him a lot. When news hit of him taking over his father's company, family members near and far reached out to check on his wellbeing. At one point his aunts stormed his home to deliver unprofessional medical advice.
Micah let out a heavy sigh as he remembered their ambush. As much as he appreciated their concerns, he found devoting himself to his work to be quite relaxing. He was often at peace when he worked.
A loud car horn shook him awake from his work-filled daydream, signaling for him to finally go. Micah could hardly keep his eyes open and was fighting the urge to yawn, the lack of sleep starting to kick. That was always the downside of focusing all his time on work. The lack of sleep always followed him like a looming storm leaving him in a zombie-like state.
As much as he dreaded the feeling, working made him happy.
With the feeling of tiredness creeping up on him, his mind started to drift. Walking into work tired and out of his mind was a major no-no. He couldn't stand the idea of walking in like that.
"On to some other news, a brand new coffee shop has finally opened its doors! Nadu's Coffee Bar has had a bit of a soft launch for the last 2 weeks and has finally opened!" The news anchor continued to gush over the coffee shop's new arrival.
Micah had heard a thing or two about some coffee shop making its grand debut somewhere near the company building. He wasn't too eager to try out the new place due to his loyalty to another coffee spot. He had been ordering there for some time and had grown to enjoy it, quickly becoming a regular.
Well, that was until they closed for renovations.
He almost fell to his knees when he saw the sign on the door. His favorite spot for coffee and a sweet treat had closed. It had only been a few days but he was already starting to lose his mind without his favorite pick-me-up. His perfect order was sucked up into a dark and empty void with no sign of a return. Micah was devastated.
Although he was still mourning the loss of the other coffee shop, he was a bit curious about Nadu's Coffee Bar.
The coffee shop was only a few minutes away from the company and some of his employees had already gone. The company was filled with chatter and whispers raving about how good the coffee was. It was all anyone would talk about.
As he stopped at another red light, he wasted no time grabbing his phone and typing in the name of the coffee shop. Nadu's Coffee Bar was a lot closer than he thought. An eight-minute drive from where he was and a five-minute walk from the company building.
