Maya slowly stirred awake, feeling her hand being moved.  She opened her eyes and listened to Carina, snoring lightly, her face buried in Maya's neck as her body was pressed close, her tummy resting on her wife's hip.  Maya's hand was on Carina's belly and she smiled as she realized that it was the twins, moving around.  Rubbing gently, Maya whispered.
"Hey, calm down and let Mamma sleep.  She's been through a lot."
Carina stirred as the girls kept their activity up. Maya hugged Carina closer to her and kissed her head tenderly.  The only thing missing in that moment was Liam as Maya let her thoughts wander about the past several days. Once they had made it back to land, Sami had been taken into custody and was awaiting extradition back to Hawaii. Tommy had gotten away and there was  nothing found on board the yacht to tie him or Giancomo to anything that had happened to Maya. Kate however had said that when she got back to Hawaii she was going to see if she could use Carina's kidnapping as a way to at least make anything stick somehow, someway.
Maya had insisted that they go directly to check on her award recipient and it was only when Maya walked into the hospital and inquired about Kimberly Davenport that she felt her heart move down from where it had been lodged in her throat since she had been abducted. The young runner had taken two bullets, one of which had gone completely through her body.  As they walked down the hall, Maya checked to make sure it was still in the pocket of her bloodstained track jacket.  It had been weighing on Maya's heart to find out how she was as the nurse brought her to Kimberley's room.  Maya had gingerly stepped in, standing silently over the sedated young runner as the nurse explained that she would make a full recovery but it would be some time before she could start running again. Maya had asked for a pen and paper and sat to write a note to Kimberly, explaining as best she knew how that she was beyond proud of the fearless woman Kimberly was. Maya had left her cell number and said that she would always be available. It was only when Carina stuck her head in and asked Maya to come out that she remembered she needed some medical attention herself as she groaned and held her waist. Carina had procured a room and set everything up, pointing at Maya to lay down so she could assess her. It had been such a relief to watch her wife being the amazing doctor she was, tending to Maya's wound and being so loving about it. Maya had tried to sneak in a make out session when Carina was cleaning the cut on her cheek, but her wife simply gave her the doctor's stare and Maya grudgingly complied. They had come back to the hotel and basically secluded themselves in their suite ever since so that Maya could heal and Carina could keep an eye on her. It had been wonderful to just be able to be with each other in their intimate love, appreciating the fact that the drama did finally feel like it was over. Even Kate and Lucy had been enjoying quiet alone time as Kate was nursing her bruised ribs from the gun shots and mild concussion she had received. Salvatore had refused to leave, explaining to Carina that until she and Maya went back to Sicily, they were stuck with him. Carina had thanked him and then told him to go enjoy a few days of rest, promising that they wouldn't leave the hotel without telling him.
"Mmmmm....Bambina..."
Maya smiled as Carina sleepily kissed her neck.
"Yes my love?"
"Can you go pee for me? These two piccole merde are pushing on my bladder."
"Haha...I'm sorry my love, but there are just some things you have to do for yourself. But, I could carry you to the bathroom though if you want."
Carina opened her one eye that wasn't buried in Maya's neck and smiled slightly as she shook her head, her lips brushing against Maya's skin.
"Your doctor told you not to lift anything heavy."
"Well, my doctor tells me a lot of things and most times I don't listen. Besides, you aren't that heavy."
"Bambina, I'm practically the size of our house! And you should listen to your doctor, she's very brilliant you know."
"See, I know, but I always get sidetracked by how stunningly beautiful she is and by how sexually attracted I am to her. I think that's why my brain stops working whenever she looks at me."
"Hmmm, it sounds like you have a crush on your doctor. Maybe I should have Salvatore beat her up."
"He wouldn't stand a chance, I could take him in a fight. I've got skills now y'know."
Both women dissolved in giggles resulting in Carina pushing Maya to get off the bed so she could hurry into the bathroom.
