Akira's heart raced as he navigated the narrow streets of Chonburi, his thoughts hopeful and anxious. Each stop he made to inquire about Talay only led to more frustration; the locals' answers were vague and unhelpful. As he pulled up to a bustling market square, he rolled down the window and called out to a passing woman. She jumped at the voice, greeted him with a confused smile, and stepped towards the car.
"Do you know if there's a man named Talay living nearby?" Akira asked, leaning out. The noise of the traffic made it hard to hear her response.
The woman's face lit up with recognition and she nodded enthusiastically. "Kha, I know Khun Talay. He lives in 13 Ban Map San Suk, just ten minutes from here. Are you a friend of his?"
Akira hesitated. "Yes, just visiting him," he said, forcing a smile. He thanked her, closed the window, and quickly typed the street name into his GPS. The map displayed a route that would soon lead him to Talay's new home. His heart pounded in his chest with every mile, the weight of anticipation pressing heavily on him.
After a brief drive, Akira arrived at a modest house surrounded by a well-kept garden bursting with color. It was exactly the kind of quiet, serene place Talay would have chosen. As Akira approached the front door, his steps felt leaden with dread. His mind raced with fears: What if Talay didn't want to see him? What if he had moved on? What if their love had faded into memory?
He hesitated before the door, his heart thudding as he raised his hand to knock. But before he could make contact, the door swung open, revealing Talay.
Time had changed him. His face bore the marks of age and hardship, his hair longer and slightly disheveled. Yet his eyes, those intense, unforgettable eyes, still held a spark, albeit one now shadowed by reserve and pain.
"Akira..." Talay's voice was a whisper, a mix of shock and something softer that Akira couldn't quite place. "What are you... why...?"
Akira swallowed hard, his emotions choking his words. "I've been looking for you."
Talay's eyes widened. "Why now? After all these years?"
"I didn't know how to come back," Akira admitted, his voice breaking. "I didn't know if I even had the right to."
Talay's gaze softened but remained guarded. He stepped aside, allowing Akira into the house. The interior was simple but inviting, the silence thick with the weight of their shared past.
"It's been years, Akira. I thought... I thought you had moved on," Talay said quietly, his expression unreadable.
Akira's eyes drifted away. "Am I too late?" he whispered, more to himself than to Talay.
"You didn't forgive me, Akira," Talay said softly, moving closer. "I never thought you would. I moved on. I couldn't keep waiting for something that might never happen."
Akira met Talay's gaze, his pain palpable. "I couldn't forgive you... but I couldn't stop loving you either. I tried to forget, to move on, but you were always there. Everywhere I went, everything I did—there was always you."
Talay's breath hitched, tears forming in his eyes. "Do you think it was any different for me? I loved you. I love you, Akira. But I thought... after what happened... that there was nothing left for us. I thought you hated me."
Akira shook his head, stepping closer. "I tried to hate you, but I couldn't. I just... I didn't know what to do after the trial, after we parted. I didn't know how to let go of the pain."
They stood inches apart, the years of separation collapsing into an instant. Talay hesitantly reached out, his trembling hand touching Akira's face. The warmth of Talay's touch ignited a flood of long-buried emotions.
