The following morning, Tom awoke Harry and Y/N with his trademark toothless grin and cups of tea. Pulling a jumper over his head and appearing agitated, Ron banged his way into the room as Harry and Y/N were trying to convince Hedwig and O/N into going back into their cages.
"The sooner we get on the train, the better," he said. "At least I can get away from Percy at Hogwarts. Now he's accusing me of dripping tea on his photo of Penelope Clearwater. You know," Ron scowled, "his girlfriend. She's hidden her face under the frame because her nose has gone all blotchy..."
"We've got something to tell you," Y/N began. However, Fred and George interrupted them, having peered in to congratulate Ron on once again irritating Percy.
They went to breakfast, where Mrs. Weasley was regaling Hermione and Ginny about a Love Potion she had concocted as a young girl, all of them quite giddy, while Mr. Wealsey was reading the Daily Prophet's front page with a serious expression.
"What were you saying?" Ron asked as they sat down.
"We'll tell you later," Harry said as Percy marched in.
Amid the frenzy of leaving, Harry and Y/N didn't get an opportunity to chat with Ron and Hermione because they were too busy heaving all their trunks down the narrow staircase of the Leaky Cauldron and stacking them close to the entrance, with Percy's screech owl, Hermes, and Hedwig and O/N perched on top in their cages. Beside the pile of trunks, a small wicker basket was spitting noisily.
"It's all right, Crookshanks," Hermione cooed through the wickerwork, "I'll let you out on the train."
"You won't," Ron said sharply. "What about poor Scabbers, eh?"
He gestured to a big bump on his chest, which showed that Scabbers was tucked into his pocket.
Mr. Weasley poked his head inside after waiting outside for the Ministry cars.
"They're here," he said. "Harry, Y/N, come on."
Harry and Y/N were marched by Mr. Weasley across the brief pavement to the first of two vintage dark green cars, each driven by a sly-looking wizard dressed in an emerald velvet suit.
"In you get, boys," Mr. Weasley said, sweeping his eyes up and down the busy street.
After Harry and Y/N entered the back of the car, Hermione, Ron, and - much to Ron's dismay - Percy soon followed. It was a little crowded in the backseat, and Y/N found himself slightly squished between Harry and Hermione.
When compared to Harry and Y/N's Knight Bus ride, the drive to King's Cross was very uneventful. The Ministry Of Magic cars seemed nearly unremarkable, but Y/N noticed that they could fit through openings that Uncle Vernon's brand-new company car could not have. With only twenty minutes to go, they arrived at King's Cross. The Ministry drivers found trolleys for them, unloaded their trunks, tipped their caps to Mr. Weasley, and then departed, somehow making their way to the front of an unmoving queue for the traffic lights.
Mr. Weasley stayed with Harry and Y/N all the way into the station.
"Right then," he said, looking all around them. "Let's do this in threes, as there are so many of us. I'll go through first with Harry and Y/N."
Mr. Weasley walked across to the barrier separating platforms nine and ten, pushing the trolleys belonging to Harry and Y/N and seeming interested in the InnerCity 125 that had just pulled up at platform nine. He leant casually against the barrier, casting instructive glances at both Harry and Y/N. Harry and Y/N did the same.
In the next moment, they fell sideways through the sturdy metal onto platform nine and three-quarters. Raising their heads, they saw the scarlet steam engine of the Hogwarts Express, blazing smoke above a crowded platform where wizards and witches were watching their children board the train.
