You've heard the story of Medusa.
A priestess turned monster, but do you know how inaccurate that story is?

They made a monster out of the victim.
Attempted to silence her voice.
Raped her for her beauty, then killed her for the hideous monster they made her.

But was she ever really a monster?
Was she ever really hideous?
What if she was never a monster?
What if she was always beautiful?

That's how I see her.
Always beautiful, never a monster, always wronged.
But that's not how historians see her.

Dear Medusa, If I had written your story, they'd see you through my eyes.
They'd hear your cries.
They'd know your pain.

Oh, Medusa, I'd write it so everyone knows what Poseidon did to you.
I'd write it so everyone knows how Athena blessed you, not wronged you.

Dear Medusa, I would share your story if given the chance.
I'd tell them all how you stood no chance.
I'd tell them how you begged for Athena to save you.
I'd tell them how she blessed you with the gift to turn any man who dared harm you into stone.

Oh, Medusa, I feel your pain.
In their eyes, the victim is always to blame.
Poseidon raped you.
The "heroes" blamed you.
They made you the villain of your own story.
I would have made you a star in all its glory.

Dear Medusa, nothing I can do can heal your pain.
Although our experiences are not the same and I remember hardly any of mine, I will continue to speak your truth.
They made you a monster when you had done nothing wrong.

Oh, Medusa, I would change your story if I could.
If I had written it everyone would know the truth.
But I didn't.

The sad truth is your story was told by men.
Always quick to blame the victim.
They made you a villain, they stripped you of your beauty, and they turned you into a monster.
They killed you for the wrongdoings of a man because you are just a woman, and they can.

But, Oh, Medusa, I still think you're beautiful.
I see you for what you are.
A victim.
I hear your cries.
I feel your pain.
Our pain.
I see you Medusa, and I always will.

Hi, beautiful people, I'm sorry this one is late. It's a bit personal to me, so it took longer. I tried to show my interpretation of Medusa's story while referencing some of my past trauma. Thanks for reading and I'll see you next Friday!
