At the tower
„Tony... Why are you still dating Pepper?", Natasha asked, after she bursted into the workshop. He looked at her annoyed. „Can't you knock before you burst in here?" Natasha answered: „Sure, I could, but I'm not gonna do that. So, just answer my question Stark!" „Why? Because I love her? Isn't that obvious Romanoff!?" Yes, he was still dating her but he had lied. He was in love with a certain blonde supersoldier, but he wasn't going to admit that. She looked at him with a knowing look. „Tony.. you're not. Do you really think that I didn't saw the way you look at Steve? You're looking at him like New York, and Siberia didn't changed the way you feel about him. Why didn't you just told him?" He tried to convince her that this wasn' true. „Because it's not true? I'm in love with Pepper and I will always be. Steve Rogers is an idiot and I really really hate him. I always did!" His heart ached when he said this last few words. Natasha just looked at him and said: „Stop trying to convince yourself that you hate him. You don't. And you know that you're in love with him. We both know that. I know that you miss him and that you need him and that's okay Tony. Why don't you call him? He left you a letter and a phone, didn't he?" He sighed. „Yes, he did... but I... I just can't. I'm still mad at him and Pepper... she needs me... she's pregnant."
Natasha smiled a little, hugged me and answered: „Congratulations Tony. But still... Talk to her and break up with her. You have to. I think she would understand it. Being with her when you're in love with someone else will hurt her more then telling her the truth and ending it right now. Being with her isn't fair. For none of you. You know that and I know that you don't want to hurt her." „You're right. I really don't want to hurt her. She deserves to know the truth. Okay fine, I'm gonna tell her. But I won't call Rogers!" She sighed. „Tony... I know you're mad at him and I'm not saying that you were wrong, but you also have to understand his actions. He had nobody back then except Bucky Barnes. He's his best friend and of course he was going to protect him. He didn't told you, because he didn't wanted to hurt and he's sorry for not telling you the truth about your parents. He regrets it every day. If it had been Rhodey who killed Steve's parents and you would have been the one who should've told Steve, would you did it? Would you protect Rhodey if Steve would want to kill him after finding out?" After she said that he was thinking about what she had said and finally understood why Steve did what he did. He sighed, because he was a little less mad, but he was still hurt. „I... I guess not. I never saw it that way, but I guess I would've done the same. But I'm still hurt so I'm not gonna call him. Not yet. I really can't. I need a little more time. But thank you Natasha." He smiled at her and she smiled back. „Not for that. I'm always here for you if you need me. You know where to find me." With these words she turned around and left, knowing her work was done.
A few hours later at Tony's and Pepper's house
Pepper was sitting in the living room and was reading a book. Since she was pregnant she took a break from work. He came into the room, with a nervous look on his face. And Tony Stark was a man who was never nervous. „Pepper. I need to talk to you. It's important." She put the book on the table and looked at him worried. When he was nervous it really had to be something serious. „Okay Tony. What's wrong?" She knew that he was going to say something that would change their relationship. She had realized that he had changed. She didn't wanted it to be true for a long time, but unfortunately it was. It started after New York. Just small things and she had realized it a short time before Siberia happend. She hoped that Tony would finally be honest with her and himself. „We need to break up. I still love you, but more like a sister. And I... I like someone else. I'm sorry. I never wanted to hurt you Pepper. But it's not fair being with you, when there's someone else in my heart. You don't deserve being the second option, that's why I'm breaking up with you. I want you to know that I always be here for you and the baby. I promise. I just hope that you can forgive me one day."
He was a little scared how she would react but her reaction surprised him. She looked at him with a sad smile. „It's okay. I saw it coming. I already forgave you. You changed. Since New York. Just small things. I didn't wanted it to be true for a long time and I realized it a short time before Siberia, so I had enough time to prepare myself for today. Yes, I'm a little sad, but I will be fine. I want you to be happy. You deserve it." She kissed his cheek and he looked at her thankfully. „Thank you Pepper. You deserve happiness too." He smiled. Pepper asked: „That special person... it's Steve, am I right?" He blushed so she knew that she was right. Tony wasn't someone who blushed, but he had. He sighed. „Yes, it's Steve." „I knew it! Well, he's lucky to own your heart Tony."
