When Nico said that he'd show him something fun, being pulled head force into an abyss was not what Amane had expected.

As soon as he grabbed hold of his hand, the three were plunged forward, into an abyss of darkness. It felt sort of like the were falling into a rabbit hole— a frigid cold rabbit hole, moving at speeds so fast that Amane thought his skin would fall straight off his bones, like smoked pork ribs.

Kanago clung to her older brother, holding on for dear life as they both screamed, continuing their endless descent into darkness. Amane closed his eyes, wondering if this was how he'd meet his inevitable demise.

He begun to ponder what would happen if he died; the logistics of it. Would he teleport back to Hades' castle? As a child of Hades, is that his respawn point, like in a video game?

For some reason, while falling, Amane had an interesting epiphany— one that he hadn't considered before. He was not afraid of dying. In fact, he never was.

Throughout his childhood, the demigod had tons of near death experiences. Like when he almost drowned at the beach; he swam too far away from the shore, and was pulled into the current. He bang to sink underneath the water, inhaling way too much water. His body started to shut down, but he remembered not being afraid. In fact, he felt more comfortable than he'd ever been.

If Amane died, he wouldn't go back to school and face his bullies. He also wouldn't have to worry about disappointing the people who cared about him. It was almost serene in a morbid way— like he was finally being released from the burdens of life and society's heavy expectations of him.

He wasn't sure how he survived the ordeal. His eight year old mind briefly remembered being pulled up, dragged by something.

Amane landed headfirst with a loud thud, pain shooting through his skull. "Ow," he groaned, trying to push himself up, only for Kanago to come crashing down on top of him.

"Nii-san!" she shrieked, in a mixture of surprise and laughter, rolling off of him.

Nico on the other hand, had landed much more gracefully, smirking at the two. "You'll get used to shadow travel, eventually," he said casually.

Kanago scrambled to her feet, eyes wide with excitement. "That was amazing! How did you do that? Can I learn it? How does it work? Do you need special powers?"

Nico blinked, overwhelmed by the sudden barrage of questions. "Uh, it's a Hades kid thing. I doubt a mortal could learn it."

Kanago pouted, deflating like a balloon. "No fair..."

Amane groaned, dragging himself upright and massaging his aching head. It was only then that he realized his surroundings had changed. The gloomy underworld castle had been replaced by something far more magnificent. He now stood on a stone walkway, leading up to a grand structure that took the breath out of his lungs.
