CHAPTER ONE
Eloise

"Wake up, sweetheart!" My mother screamed from downstairs in an attempt to wake me up.

" You wouldn't want to be late for you first day at your new school, would you?"

Unlike what she thought ,I'd been awake for two hours. Laying on my bed, staring at my ceiling and hoping that somehow it would teleport me back to my old apartment.

My sister shouted from downstairs, telling me I had to come.

Delaney, my little sister, and I had never lived more than two years in a same city.

Which is what had helped us stay close all these years, when you can't keep friends at school you find yourself being best friend with your 10 year old sister.

You might call it pathetic, I call it cute.

I tried not to think of my last school friends as I stopped staring at my ceiling and actually rolled out of bed.

They promised to keep contact and that this whole situation wouldn't change anything between us. That's bullshit.
I'll tell you what happens every time i move away.
At first they'll try to reach out  but after a while they progressively stop as they don't see the point in pursuing  a friendship if we won't see each over anymore and slowly I won't even receive a birthday text anymore.

I didn't blame them if I were anyone else I wouldn't want to be friends with I.

Once I've finished preparing myself I went downstairs and walked into the kitchen where all my family was eating breakfast while watching tv, not taking to eachovers.

As I entered the room my sister lifted her head to look at me with her big blue eyes before a huge smile drew itself on her lips.

"You're so pretty, I wish I was a redhead like you and mom, it's gorgeous."
I couldn't help but smile at her compliment, Delaney had that affect on people.
The one that could make you feel like absolute trash to the prettiest person on earth in a word from her. "You're the pretty one here, look at you!"
I replied pulling her into my arms.

"Will you stop behaving like a child, Eloise?"
My dad said his voice calm but severe, as always.
"You are seventeen and you should start acting like it." He finished without looking at us.

I stepped away from Delaney and sat next to her.

"Don't worry girls, this time  will be different, I can feel it. Edinburgh is our city!" My mom said with that excited tone in her voice, the one she always used when we moved in another city, like an excited puppy going on walk.

It was hard for me to understand how dad- a severe person practically allergic to fun and love- and mom-an overly excited person who kept tossing her daughters from one city to another- were married.

And how both of them were bad parents despite how different they were one from another.

Delaney and I exchanged a glance before looking back at our food and pretending we believed her.

I talked to Delaney, keeping my voice down so that dad didn't have a heart attack. While mom and dad were discussing how they could introduce themselves to the neighbourhood.

They usually went for the cookies.

I looked at the time before rushing out of the kitchen as I saw I only had fifteen minutes left before I had to take the school bus.

For my last year of high school I reminded myself as I felt a knot in my stomach at the thought of starting off again.

"I have to go, guys, or I'm going to be late!" I screamed as I put my backpack on one shoulder and started running towards the door.

"Goodbye ,sweetheart, have a good day at your new school!" my mom screamed back. Probably mistaking my stress for excitement.

"Don't forget your phone incase you need to call your mother and I." My dad said not lifting his eyes from his phone.

"Bye Ely!" My sister said as she pretended to blow me a kiss, I did the same, pretending to catch it before going outside and closing the door behind me.

I walked towards where the bus stop was as I listened to my playlist through headphones.
The sight of a group of teenagers who looked my age made me nervous.
There was one girl and three boys but I looked away before they could feel me staring.

I took my headphones off and grabbed my phone back from my jean's pocket as I sat on a bench near the bus stop.

Trying my best to be as invisible as possible. It was not that I didn't want friends, I did but It was 9am and I didn't feel like talking so early in the morning.

Especially to introduce myself.

The group of teenagers didn't pay attention to me anyway, too focused on their discussion.

Which couldn't have made me happier.

When the bus arrived the group got in before I took a deep breath and followed them inside.
They had installed themselves in the back of the bus so I decided to sit in the front, as far away as possible from them.

The bus started moving and I didn't think of anything better to do than looking out the window.

The city's buildings quickly passed one after another during what felt like  fifteen minutes before we slowed down for the next stop.

When we stopped at the next bus stop groups of teenagers were waiting but my eyes found a tall brunette guy standing by himself.

And he had to be the most handsome person I've ever laid eyes on.
