Alisa hated first days. They were always filled with stressfully checking and rechecking your new class schedule,  scanning lunchrooms for people you know, and dealing with the anxiety that introducing yourself to new people causes.

Brushing through her long brown hair, she fussed over whether or not to tie up into her twin braids or not. Having the braids is useful for keeping hair out of her face, but does it look childish? She's a freshman in highschool, not a 6th grader. But the braids were so cute, so it couldn't hurt...could it??

Touching up her minimal makeup, Alisa left the bathroom, observing herself quickly in her floor length mirror. Visions Academy had a cute uniform, luckily, so she didn't have to stress about making cute outfits everyday.

Down the hall from her bedroom came her mother's voice, "Alisa! Hurry up! You're letting your breakfast get cold! I still have to make your lunch!"

"Okay, mama!" Alisa called back, slipping on her backpack and walking to the kitchen, grabbing the arepa con queso and stuffing it in her mouth as she pulled on her Mary Jane's. Groaning internally, she swallowed the food, forever thanking whatever god was out there that her mother had the most amazing cooking skills.

"I'm heading out, mama! ¡Hasta luego!" Alisa shouted as she stepped out the door, hearing her mother's response of "¡Adiós, Mariposa!"

The breeze was nice out, with the school season beginning in early August, it meant that the fall season of New York was rapidly approaching. Although Alisa preferred spring, autumn was a close second.

Sliding on her headphones, she turned on her favorite playlist, a TV Girl song playing through the speakers. As Alisa bopped her head along to the music, she took her time walking to school, observing the changing leaves and random passerbys. The local basketball court was quickly approaching, causing Alisa to lift a hand in greeting to the small group of people she recognized.

"Oof!"

Someone knocked into her, nearly sending her headphones off of her head. Holding onto them and putting them around her neck, she turned to mouth off at the person that bumped into her.

"Oh! I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going!" The apology spilled from his lips before Alisa could even open hers. Alisa just stared for a second before huffing a small laugh, recognizing his uniform as the male alternative to hers,

"Don't worry about it. I'm fine, it just startled me a little. Watch where you're going next time, I'll see you at school," she said before turning around, hearing his confused 'huh?' from behind her as she put her headphones back on, continuing to walk towards the academy.
