Aiden would walk to his shared room with Lake. He sat down on the other bed and sighed.
"is everything alright, Aiden?" Lake asked, looking at her best friend. Aiden shook his head and looked at the ground.
"Not really. Its just- I'm not good at acting tough when we have prisoners, you know? As much as I don't want to be a guard its kind of my only choice." Aiden exclaimed, moving his hair out of his face. Usually the people he guarded were bad people, but Jake didn't seem like one.
"I understand how that can be hard. You don't have to be tough on them but don't let your guard down! Who knows what they are capable of." Aiden nodded to what Lake was telling him.
"Thanks for the advice." He mumbled. Then someone walked into their room, Riya. Riya was basically the co-president of the Phoenix Order.
"Aiden, get that stupid prison boy to the court room, Yul and I are gonna question him." Riya put her hands on her hips, glaring at Aiden. He rolled his eyes, standing up.
"Okay" Aiden groaned, walking out the room and to Jakes cell. He would see him sleeping and he unlocked the cell. Aiden then tapped him lightly on the shoulder. "Wake up!"
Jake bolted up, scared. He then looked over and saw the guard, who was frightened by his sudden jolt.
"Calm down! Jeez." Aiden murmed, putting Jakes hands in cuffs and getting him out of the bed.
"Wh- where are we going?!" He widened his eyes, looking at Aiden. Jake felt there was no point in running since everyone in the prison was most likely armed.
"I told you yesterday, they're going to question you." Aiden rolled his eyes, continuing to lead Jake to the court room. Jake would look down, scared on what to expect. They entered the court room and Aiden sat him down.
"Okay Aiden now leave" Yul scowled, pointing at the door. Jake flinched at the yelling.
"Was going to do that" Aiden mumbled, walking away. Jake turned his attention to Yul and Riya, nervously.
"So, you were the idiot sneaking around, thinking you wouldn't get caught?" Jake scoffed at what he was hearing Yul say.
"If thats how you want to put it, then sure." Jake glared at him, his handcuffed hands on the table.
"Enough chit chatting, how much security does your camp have?" Riya demanded, putting her hands on the table in front of him. He looked up at her, lifting a brow.
"What makes you think I'm gonna tell you?!"
"Maybe this will?" Yul put a knife to his neck. Jakes breath hitched as he looked over.
"My friends lives are more important than just mine, so no, it doesn't"
Yul groaned and took the knife away from his neck. Jake let out a sigh of relief.
"Hes obviously not gonna tell us anything!"
"Then we have no other choice." Riya walked out to Aiden. "Kill him."
"What?!" Aidens eyes widened. Jake tried to listen in but he was too far away to hear anything. Aidens never killed a prisoner but now he has no choice. "Okay."
Aiden walked in, helping Jake up and walked out. Jake looked back at Yul, waving with a manic smile. They then were walking outside the prison.
"Whats happening?!" Jake whispered. Aiden unlocked his handcuffs. Aiden tripped him and Jake looked up at him. Aiden pulled out a gun and Jake flinched. Aiden had it aimed at his forehead and the last second he moved it to the tree behind the two. Jakes eyes widened at the dudden loud noise.
"I was ordered to kill you, but you got lucky! So get out of here and don't ever come back!" Aiden shouted, throwing the gun down beside him. Jake scrambled to collect the gun and stood up. Before he took off he looked over at Aiden.
"T- thank you" Jake trembled, still shooken up as he ran off. Aiden sighed, seeing Jake disappear into the distance. He put his hand on his forehead. Aiden couldn't kill him- the only thing he's killed is zombies!
Jake ran in the direction of the miracles camp, out of breath. Why did the guard let him go? Jake saw Ashley in the distance and ran up to hug her.
"Jake?! Oh my god we thought you were dead!" Ashley cried out, tears coming down her face as she hugged him tightly. "We tried to stay for you- but there were too many hoards!"
"Its okay- I understand! Wheres Shawn?!" Jake asked, Ashley frowned a bit. "What is it?"
Ashley lead him over to Shawns room. You could see the life in him fade slowly. Jake let out a shakey breath as he saw his brother.
"They trapped us in the gate with the hoards. We all escaped but.." Ashley gestured to Shawn. He lifted up his shirt, revealing a bite mark. Jake let out a sob.
"No- no this can't be!" Tears streamed down Jakes face as he went to hug his brother. Shawn weakly hugged him back.
"Its okay Jake, trust me." Shawn said, hoarsely. He cupped his younger brothers face. Jake let out another helpless sob. He couldn't handle seeing his brother like this, in so much pain.
"No- its not okay! I should've b- been there. Its all my fault!" Jake cried into his brothers shoulder. It felt like everything in his life was crashing down.
"It isn't your fault, Jake. Things happen for a reason. The only thing that matters is you're safe. We all thought they killed you."
"Thats not what matters! It should've been me instead of you! I'm so sorry Shawn, you don't deserve this!"
"Jake, its better this way.. I can be here with you no matter whether I am alive or dead." Shawn gave Jake his ring. Jake nodded, smiling as tears went down his face.
"Are you gonna wait til you transform?" Jake asked, shakily since he can't believe he would ever say those words. Shawn shook his head.
"I'm almost there but I can't let you see me as a zombie, Jake." Shawn gestured over to the gun. Jakes eyes widened, tears going down his face more. "Everything will be okay, trust me."
Jake watched his brother get up and he hugged him tightly, one last time. Shawn smiled and handed him a letter.
"Read this whenever you feel is best." Shawn ordered. Jake nodded, putting it in his pocket. "I love you so much, you are the best brother someone could ask for."
"I love you too, Shawn." Jake cried more as he saw him leave the room. Ashley looked at Jake sadly as Shawn walked off.
"Its okay Jake" Ashley comforted as Jake ran into a hug. She held him tightly as they heard a muffled gunshot. Jake sobbed in his friends shoulder, knowing that his brother is now gone. The cruelest way a soul could be taken.
The funeral of Shawn Hamilton, a day later. Jake would stare at the pile of dirt his brother was in. None of it felt real. People all talked, honoring him but all Jake felt was fury. He couldn't let the Phoenix Order get away with that. Every second of today he felt guilt, many ways he could have and should have saved his brother. Jake looked down at his brothers gold tinted ring on his hand and looked up at the sky, praying he was somewhere relaxing now.
