If We Have Each Other

Chapter Four

Breakfast passes by eventless. Taehyun is no longer mad at Kai for whatever reason he was last night, and it seems like their dynamic is back to normal, at least that is what Kai is being led into thinking.

He stuffs his mouth with chocolate puffs from the buffet and he sees Yeonjun doing the same; even taking himself a plate piled with eggs and butter to fuel himself for the day. Kai mimics him.

They head for another meeting; and the waiting game begins again. They stand around beyond closed doors until the meeting finally ends and Kai sees Taehyun steps outside of the green doors into the hall where the security team waits.

Kai offers him a caramel toffee and Taehyun happily takes it. The sugar coats his lips and makes them appears extra sweet and glazed; Kai instantly feels the regret of offering Taehyun the candy and he has to clasp his hands behind his back and drown himself into a conversation with Soobin in order to keep himself together.

Soobin is easy-going and nice to talk to. Other than his work, Kai finds out that the elder also enjoys video games and anime, which are hobbies he rarely gets the chance to revisit but he tells Kai that the second the delegation ends, by estimate a few months at least.

He'll go on a long vacation of nothing but LoL. Kai's face brightens as Soobin mentions the beloved game and he can't help but bring his childhood friend, Beomgyu, into the conversation.

They are half-way into planning a gaming night when Kai sees something strange in the corner of his eye. His excited, child-like smile drops in an instant and his instinct jump into action within a millisecond.

His hands catch Taehyun even before his mind process that the scientist had fell down, or rather, dropped himself. He looks at Taehyun with a worried, widened eyes.

Taehyun looks up at him from his position within Kai's arms; seemingly completely fine. He gets up while Soobin also grows quiet at the sudden, unexpected act.

"What happened?" Kai asks as his hands drops to the sides of his body. "Did you trip?"

"No."

"... Taehyun." Soobin crosses his hands on his chest. "What are you doing? Stop tormenting your bodyguard."

"I'm not tormenting him. I'm conducting an experiment." Taehyun replies simply; without no reaction and walks away without giving away any more information.

Kai closes his mouth then opens it again; resembling a fish. "I'm... confused."

"Don't try to understand."

"Yeah-" he scoffs. "I'm starting to realize; understanding isn't going to help me one bit with this guy."

The more the day progresses, the weirder Taehyun acts. Kai tries to blow past it but not knowing what the young scientist is up to is beginning to make him jittery.

After they return back to the hotel, Kai decides he only needs a few minutes with Taehyun to figure out his recently odd behavior.

"No."

Kai deflates. "We'll be back by 12." he negotiates, but Mr. Bang puckers his lips and shakes his head. "11?" he knocks it down by one hour, but still no give.

What is the point in being in the most romantic city in the world and not be able to share it with someone else?

He sighs. "10?"

"Mr. Huening, out of all people, you should know that this is not a good idea." Mr. Bang begins lecturing. "Not only are you asking to leave when it's dark but you want to take Taehyun-Shii with you? Just the two of you? Absolutely not."
