Over the next two days, Zoya and Monet found themselves in an uneasy standoff, believing the other was at fault for their strained relationship.
Zoya couldn't help but feel Monet was ashamed of her, leading to her decision to distance herself. She questioned Monet's intentions, wondering if their connection was real or just a game to her. This doubt consumed her, making it challenging to trust Monet again.
On the other hand, Monet was struggling with her own fears. She feared their next conversation would lead to Zoya ending their relationship for good. The thought of losing Zoya was unbearable, but she was equally afraid of fully embracing a public relationship. These conflicting emotions kept her at bay, hesitant to approach Zoya and risk their connection falling apart.
So, they kept their distance, silently grappling with their insecurities and doubts, hoping that time would provide clarity and a solution to bridge the growing gap between them.
Julien observed the growing distance between her sister Zoya and her best friend Monet with a heavy heart. She couldn't help but notice the hurt and tension that had crept into their relationship, which weighed on her like an invisible burden.
However, Julien was reluctant to get directly involved in their issues, as past experiences had shown her that her interference often led to unintended consequences. She remembered times when her efforts to mediate or offer advice had only fueled the flames of conflict, leaving everyone involved more hurt and frustrated. She hoped they would find a way to resolve their differences and heal their rift without her direct involvement.
As Julien stood at her locker, she couldn't help but notice Monet's disinterested and usual demeanor as she interacted with a student in her way. Luna approached Julien, sensing her observation, and couldn't resist poking fun at her.
"What's wrong? You keep looking at Monet. Did she finally post that TikTok exposing Obie's receding hairline?" Luna teased, her tone playful.
Clearly not amused by Luna's jest, Julien replied, "What? No! Look at her. She's not happy right now." She then gestured subtly towards the opposite end of the hallway where Zoya stood, wearing a similarly unhappy expression.
Luna followed Julien's gaze and quickly picked up on the situation. "You know, don't you?" Luna asked, her tone shifting to a more serious note.
Julien met Luna's eyes and nodded. "You know, too? I told Zoya that you knew!" Julien confirmed a hint of satisfaction in her voice.
"Of course, I knew," Luna replied with a knowing smile. "It was so obvious."
"They definitely need to make up soon, but I'm afraid I'll just make things worse," Julien sighed.
Luna nodded thoughtfully. "You have a horrible track record, Julien, but let's see if we can figure something out. First, tell me everything you know."
Julien proceeded to share everything she knew about the situation. As she explained Monet's reasons for wanting to keep their relationship private, Luna couldn't help but feel sympathy for her best friend. It was apparent that Monet was fighting her feelings of inadequacy and insecurity beneath her confident exterior.
