From the weeks leading up to thanksgiving I haven't heard from Grant and it's been weird we promised to physically talk to each other more but we had one voice call and then it fell off and by fell off I mean literally everything we haven't talked like we normally do no texts,no calls nothing both of us constantly missing each other
I walk down the steps of my childhood home entering the kitchen I see my mom and sister standing at the counter making hot chocolate
"Hey "I say sitting in a chair at the counter
"Hi sweetheart"my mom says
"Hi Ari"Maddie says patting my head as she walks by
"So last day here then you head back what do you want to do"her mom asks
"Maybe hang with you guys watch movies relax"I say
"Oh that so boring why are you leaving early anyways I feel like you just got here"Maddie says
"I know the way your running back you would think your married and need to see your husband"her mom says
I roll my eyes "I told you guys work has been really busy"
"Always work well I guess let's make the best of today"her mom says
"Yeah we can make pastries and watch movies"Maddie says
"See that sounds like a plan"I says getting up we all laugh as I help them make hot chocolate when my phone dings
I reach over grabbing it
Grant at 10:37 pm :please be awake
Aria at 10:40 pm :hey
Grant at 10:43 pm: perfect- - it's been forever!
Aria at 10:44:yeah same.we keep missing eachother
Grant at 10:48:so are we still on for thanksgiving this weekend?I was going to pick you up from the airport
Aria at 10:50: yeah I guess,I don't know
Aria at 10:50: are you upset with me
Aria at 10:50: and that's why you've been avoiding me
Grant at 10:51: woah slow down
Grant at 10:52:I'm not mad at you or upset or disappointed. I haven't been avoiding you.honest I've been busy
Aria at 10:54:so then how did we get here taking every day to not talking and missing each other
Grant 10:55:aria I promise nothing is wrong and I'm not upset.work just really started picking up so I've been busy or sleeping because I'm exhausted
Grant at 10:56:this weekend will be better neither of us will have work we will be together and everything will be fine
Aria at 10:56:okay
Grant at 10:57: I promise how's bc and your family
Aria at 10:58: it's fine they are all fine,I'm not mad or blowing you off but I have to go I promise my sister Id help her bake I fly into LAX tommrow at 10:50 Am tomorrow

I lock my phone and turn it over on the counter looking at Maddie who is getting out the cookie dough
"Who was that"my mom asks
"Just a friend"I say
"Oh cause that smile on your face said different"Maddie says
"Anyways want some help"I say washing my hands they both laugh
I help make the cookie dough and pop it into the oven
"Wanna go pick out a movie"I ask looking at Maddie
"Okay"she says walking into the living room
"So what's the real reason you're leaving tomorrow"my mom says
"I already..."I start but get cut off
"Don't give me oh it's work aria I knows my own daughter"she says
"Fine I promised a friend I would see him this weekend before he left"I say
"That's great hun I barley hear you talk about friends"she says
"Umm Izzy and Willa and Paul and Jordan"I say
"Have you talked to Izzy and Willa lately"she asks
"Yeah I talked to izzy last night and Willa yesterday morning"I say
"Guys movie"Maddie says
I go sit with the hot chocolate and cookies placing them on the table
We all get comfortable and watch the movie I look over about halfway in to see my mom and Maddie sleeping
I laugh turning off the movie and putting everything away I put a blanket over the two and lay on the big couch
