ACT I: THE FALL OF EL DORADO.
༺♰༻Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado. But he grew old—
This knight so bold—
And o'er his heart a shadow—
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado. And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow—
'Shadow,' said he,
'Where can it be—
This land of Eldorado?''Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,'
The shade replied,—
'If you seek for Eldorado!'-Edgar A. Poe

"Eren." you breathed out, and the boy only hummed in response. "When I die, I want to die by the hands of a loved one."His eyes widened, before he chuckled nervously. "Where did that come from?"
"That's what my... father once told me."
You were sitting at the edge of a cliff, your sharp gaze drinking the landscape in. Seeing you get lost in the moment once again, Eren took the opportunity to observe you closely under the moonlight.
Your right hand was fiddling with your gold necklace, but it seemed to have a mind of its own, occasionally tugging at the fabric of your jacket near your left bicep.
Gold— oh, how rare it was within the walls. He can't remember the last time he saw something made of gold before meeting you at the Cadet Corps.
You were barely blinking, as if you were scared that the scenery beneath your feet would melt away. You were on top of the world, and the world was at your feet.
Eren couldn't deny that there was something about you that made you stand out. Maybe it was your golden necklace, or perhaps it was your thick accent— your accent thicker than a river of honey.
Or maybe it was because you shone the brightest under the Sun.
And maybe, just maybe, when you were there, the night sky could be as clear as glass, but there would be no moonlight.
"Are you crying?" He asked, pointing at you. You slapped his hand away, making him groan in pain. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Don't worry too much 'bout me." You gave him a toothy grin. You stoop up, dusting your pants off before giving him a hand.
Your eyes roamed around as you walked back, always looking for a new detail that might've escaped them. Without slowing your steps, you shattered the silence.
"Eren."
"Yes?"
"I always cry. I always cry when I see something beautiful."
The moon didn't offer you any light, but the stars made up for it. A thousand Suns far away bathed you in their glow. Your right hand instinctively clawed at that gold necklace again. You unclasped it gently, your fingers brushing over the cool metal as you did so. Then, you brought the pendant to your lips, kissing it.
There was something about this view that haunted Eren. Your slow yet calculated movements made it seem like you were repeating them for centuries. And that necklace— that necklace alone haunted him.
The gold was blinding.
