Chapter 2

The truth comes out

Melantha got out of the car, moving as fast as she could to the house, her legs still  a bit of pain flaring up with each stride.

EJ wasn't far behind her as concern took over, what if something happened to her parents? He wondered what was going on. "What's going on Shoup?" The boy asked as he caught up with Melantha.

The deputy turning to look at the two teenagers, recognizing Elijah but not the girl he was with. "Got reports of someone breaking in and trying to stay here." The man said simply. "That is completely untrue, I have the deed." Melantha argued as she walked towards the desk but that was also the time she saw Circe in a cage.

"Put. Her. Down." Melantha almost growled that out, her possum was all she had left. "I have a permit for her, she is here legally!" She found both documents and roughly shoved them at Shoup. The man fumbling slightly at that.

EJ couldn't help the small smirk on his face at her attitude. "Where's your parents?" Shoup asked. Yes she lied to EJ but she just couldn't lie to the cops about this, plus they had no legal rights to remove her from the home.

"My father is dead, mom kicked me out. I am emancipated so I can be here. I have a job, I can pay the bills." Her face remained emotionless, minus the rage, as she stared at the deputy.

EJ looked at her shocked, he doesn't understand why she would say that they were there a day prior. She was standing her ground as she refused to look away. "You have no legal right to be here. So please get out of my house." She forced a smile onto her face.

Tonight wasn't her night, having dealt with Rafe and now the cops...it made her wonder slightly if he was the one who called but how the hell would he know where she lived?

Shoup took a breath before looking at the other cop with him. "Put the possum down..come on." He told him before looking back towards Melantha. "Sorry for the inconvenience, ma'am."
"I'm sure."

After the two cops stepped outside of her house she closed the door, opening the cage she picked Circe up in her arms. "My poor girl." She said as she pressed a kiss to the top of her head.

EJ looked towards her. "Why did you lie to me?" He asked curiously, he made sure in his voice that it was clear he wasn't angry or anything of the sort. "Because it's easier that way.. please leave." She asked him in a gentler tone.

With her having a hard day he nods, wishes her a good night and left.

Melantha was now back at work at The Wreck, she was enjoying her second day there. Kie's dad glancing towards her on occasion, seeing that she wasn't entirely there today. He couldn't judge if this was really her as the day prior she was excellent, talking happily to costumers and working fast.

"Hello ladies." JJ said as he walked in looking at the Carrera sisters and Melantha. "Hey J." Kie said as she looked up at one of her best friends. "Hey babe." Locklyn smiled flirtatiously at him much to her dad's disapproval.

He leaned against the counter, his eyes resting on Locklyn before he looked towards Melantha. "Helllloo Melly~" he said in a sing-song voice when he got no greeting from her. Her eyes cut towards him. "Hi JJ." She finally said with a roll of her eyes.

"Is there a reason you stopped by honey?" Locklyn asked as she reached over and took his hand, she was acting possessive and jealous with how JJ gave Melantha even a ounce of attention.

Jj looked back to his girlfriend of the time. "Oh yeah,the three of you are joining me and the others to go surfing, as soon as you get off work." He instructed with a grin.

He pushed off the counter. "I'll see you beautiful ladies later." He winked at them before walking out of the restaurant. "Isn't MY boyfriend so sweet?" Locklyn said with a dreamy sigh. Melantha glanced at her. "Yeah a absolute doll."

The beach was fairly empty except for the pouges that were there. Kie, Locklyn and Melantha arriving together. "Heey!" Veronica said excitedly as she waved them close.

Angelina was already on the waves ,enjoying the feeling of the cool water. John B, Pope, JJ, Sutton and Hayley looked like they were getting ready. Glancing around Melantha noticed the lack of Hunter being there.

"Where's Hunter?" Kie asked as she arched a eyebrow. Hayley smiled but rolled her eyes a bit. "He decided that he was going to cook for the group and he takes that veeeerrryyy seriously." The girl laughed.

Francesca was out on the waves, tearing it up which was insanely impressive as they watched her. John B cheering her on from the shore.

"Well are you coming or not?" T asked as she picked up her board, looking at the three girls who have yet to take off their shorts and shirts to head into the water.

"Peer pressure much?" Ej teased as he looked at the beautiful girl, his eyes scanning across her. "When I need to." She shrugged with a small smile, heading towards the water, leaving him behind as she laughed a bit.

Melantha looked towards Kie and Locklyn as they shedded their clothes to head into surfing. The Australian girl reluctantly following suit.

Those on the beach where heading into the water, melantha the last to join them. The water felt amazing as she paddled out, feeling at home if she closed her eyes and just focused on the laughter and waves.

Once she reached the group she stopped, waiting for a wave by JJ. The blonde boy looked over and noticed bruising on her hips.

"Hey Mel.."
