D A H L I A

Two days flew by so fast, and it was now a Wednesday.

I didn't have class for the whole day, and I planned to study at that coffee shop by the end of the street because for one, our internet was acting up again and second, I don't think Ivan's home considering that Medical School usually has classes for the whole day and clinical rounds by night.

Just a laptop in hand, a small backpack consisting of two notebooks and my pencil case, thinking of wearing a hoodie and some slip-ons were comfortable enough considering that the weather today was a little chilly.

The coffee shop by the end of the road was a two-story shop, the building standing atop a lot that had both the city view, and the view of the sea on the left side. Daybrook is a city that is also known for its closeness to the beauty of the world's waters. Considering that it's a city on the west coast of North Carolina, where the lands' end and waters' meet.

Arriving at the shop, I wasted no time in marching towards the second floor, taking the lone table by the end of the corner, situated in front of a massive window that overlooked the beautiful view of the Daybrook sea.

I got myself a Spanish Latte, as I always do, and ordered a box of cookies as well, for old times' sake.

I started off with my literature assignment, writing an essay about the Political wonders of this city and how non-government organizations had a helping factor in strengthening democracy. Considering that democracy has been a subject of extensive scholarly inquiry for centuries, as well as transcending geographical boundaries and cultural contexts.

There was a lot to take in, and a lot to take into account for. Not only do we, the citizens of this state, depend on the decisions and power of our leaders, but we also need to involve ourselves if we want to make this state a better one than it was a year ago, or even just yesterday.

And those were my thoughts as I typed away on my essay.

I was too focused on what was happening on my laptop's screen enough to notice that my phone had been beeping with notifications for about 10 minutes now. I only noticed it when I took a side way glance to where my phone had been situated just right beside the box of cookies. I paused for a moment, trying to see who was sending me messages at this time of the morning.

I soft smile twitched on my face. It was Jace.

Jace: Hey, I hope you're enjoying your day today! What are you doing?

We continued to talk despite me knowing that this man was probably not yet emotionally stable, considering that he was still trying to process the situation he was in. Or maybe that's just me, trying to assume that a guy like him who happens to have just gotten out of a breakup to still be feeling a little groggy on the chest. And again, I didn't want to be stuck in between unsaid feelings and cloud judgements.

But it wouldn't hurt to be there for a friend, right?

Me: Hi, Jace. I'm alright. I'm just doing some schoolwork.

Jace: I see, are you at home?

Me: No, I'm at a coffee shop nearby. The internet at my house is kind of bad right now.

I don't know if telling him about the poor excuse of an internet we have back at the house was a little bit too much or just fine. Well, he asked if I was home so that's that. Adding a little bit to back up that information to mix into the story wouldn't exactly sound like I'm over sharing or anything.
