Months passed, and with each passing day, the house became more of a home. Kian and Lila poured their hearts into every detail, from the wooden beams in the ceiling to the stone fireplace that would keep them warm through the winter. The wraparound porch became a reality, just as Lila had dreamed, and they spent many evenings sitting there, watching the stars appear one by one.

The day they finished the house, they held a small celebration—just the two of them. They stood in the doorway, looking at the place they had built together, and Lila’s eyes filled with tears.

"We did it," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.

Kian wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. "Yeah, we did."

That night, after the fire in the hearth had burned down to embers, Lila turned to Kian, her voice quiet. "Do you ever wonder what would have happened if we hadn’t escaped?"

Kian was silent for a moment, staring into the flickering flames. "Sometimes," he admitted. "But then I look at where we are now, and I know that no matter what could have happened, we made the right choice. We saved each other."

Lila nodded, wiping away a stray tear. "I’m glad you were there, Kian. I don’t know what I would’ve done without you."

"You’ll never have to find out," Kian said softly, squeezing her hand. "We’re safe now."
