Code of Silence: Love Behind Enemy Lines

Chapter I

Davao city,Philippines
7:00 AM

In the busy streets of Davao City, we see a teenager on a motorcycle swerving through traffic

JOHN'S POV

"For fucks sake I'm late!" my thoughts as I try to go through traffic in a rush to catch up to the after-party of our SHS graduation.

-TIME SKIP-
30 MINUTES LATER

I get off my motorcycle as I go into the venue." Just in time, I hope she doesn't scold me again," and as if on cue, I feel someone pull and twist my ear

"ah³ god damn that hurts, what was that for? " I scream as I turn around to see my childhood best friend looking at me with a raised eyebrow.

"And where have you been?" She asked. " Come on, we've known each other since we were in grade school, you know I'm not the best when it comes to coming on time," I said while shrugging my shoulders.

she doesn't reply and just walks off to enter the venue but stops at the entrance."You coming or not?" She says with a smirk, I just smile back, trying hard not to fold just by the sight of her smile.

That's Pauline my best friend/crush since grade school.

-FLASHBACK-

We first met at grade school when I tried to pick a fight with a kid who was a year older than me and was making fun of my Power Ranger bag.

Before I could land a hit, she jumped in the middle to stop us.

" Stop it before you hurt your selves," Pauline says in a cute tone

The bully doesn't listen to her and pushes her to the side making her fall

I look at her feeling a mix of anger and guilt, anger because the person I was fighting with involved someone who was trying to de-escalate the problem, and guilt because I was the one that started the fight trying to teach the bully not to mess with me then she got caught in the middle of it.

Without a second thought, I punched the kid square in the face making him fall with a thud, before anyone could do anything I jumped on top of him and continued to pummel him with punches until the teachers pulled me off.

"Let me go, first he insults me, then he hurts someone who was just trying to calm the situation down"

3rd person POV

*a couple of minutes later*

After the teacher separated them both, they were asked to come to the Dean of discipline's office.

After finding out that it was the bully who initiated the fight, regardless if it wasn't in a physical way he still insulted a fellow student which led to the fight

-Outside the Dean's office-

JOHN'S POV

As I was walking out of the dean's office, I saw the girl that the bully knocked over.

" Hey, you were the girl that got caught in the middle of our fight, right?" I asked
    
" Sorry about that because of me you got hurt " I apologized

"no it's OK, you didn't mean for me to get hurt it was the other kid's fault" She replied in a calm tone "Plus it was me who jumped in between the two of you"

" if you say so, names John by the way," I said attempting to introduce myself

"Pauline, nice to meet you John wanna be friends?" She asked

"Sure," I said smiling while we headed to class

3RD PERSON POV

And that's how the two became friends maybe even fated partners we never know. We now go back to the after-party for John's SHS Graduation

JOHN'S POV

As I was following Pauline we decided to just sit back and relax at the minibar. Both of us don't like to be in a crowded place, we would much rather be in a space where it would only be us talking to each other. But to our misfortune, our parents forced us to attend

"Now that we've graduated have thought about what college you wanna go to?" Pauline asked

" Yeah I have, I was planning on attending Ateneo for a while now " I replied

"Wait you were, why is this the first time I've heard of this?! " Pauline asked surprised at my answer "Good thing I was as well," She said while smiling

"that's great...hey uh Pauline there's something I've been meaning to ask"
I said grabbing her attention

"what is it" Pauline tilted her head in confusion

"the moon looks beautiful doesn't it?" I said as we looked up to the glass roof of the venue.

"it is, isn't it" She said cluelessly only for her to snap her head back in the blink of an eye to look at me with a look of surprise "Wait...are you saying, what I think you're saying?".

I smiled while drinking from the cup of punch I got while she was still processing what I said "Depends on what you were thinking ".

"oh come on John you know what I'm talking about," Pauline says while grinning.

" I don't think I do, mind elaborating?" I said with a cheeky smirk.

"NO, YOU SAY IT," Pauline says with a genuine tone of excitement.

"alright².... Pauline, you've been my best and only friend since grade school so I've had the longest time to think about how I felt about this, and this time I'm sure, will you let me have the privilege of courting you?" I asked proudly.

"YES! A HUNDRED TIMES YES!" Pauline exclaimed while jumping into my arms

I immediately try to balance myself while simultaneously carrying her and trying not to spill my cup

"I guess I can officially call you my amore~ " I said to her smiling

"whoa there cowboy hold your horses, let's take things slow," She said while flicking my nose but also kissing me on the lips immediately afterward

"I thought you said to take things slow" I questioned with a smirk

"exactly I said it, which means I can choose to follow it or not " She giggled

-TIMESKIP- AFTER THE PARTY

While driving and speeding through the empty streets of Davao to home I feel Pauline hug me tightly

"aw is the princess scared of a little speed," I said teasingly while going 120 mph in a 60mph zone

"Shut up," She said quietly in a pouting voice while laying her head on my back, trying not to make it obvious that she was starting to get nervous about the speed that we were going at

"alright² here we are home sweet home," I say as we pull up to her front lawn, I walk her to her front porch and knock on the door to check if her parents are still awake.

*knock knock*

"Strange I thought you said that your parents were home?" I asked "They were, they must've gone on a night out or something" She replied

"that's strange, the door isn't locked," I said to her she then had a confused expression, normally her parents would tell her if they were planning to go out

"they never go out with the door unlocked especially if there's no one there to guard the house," She said in a nervous tone "John can you stay for a little longer, this doesn't feel right"

"Don't you worry I was already planning to, come on let's go inside?" I say trying to reassure her

We slowly enter her home trying to find her parents but for some odd reason the house seems empty, we then end up at the door of her parent's room. We open the door only to be met with a  horrifying scene

"MOM!? DAD?!" She screams running to the lifeless bodies of her parents who seem to have been attacked
