The office was its usual chaos—phones ringing, keyboards clattering, colleagues racing to meet deadlines. But amidst the whirlwind, Kim Minjeong sat calm and collected, her fingers gliding effortlessly over her keyboard. What caught everyone's attention, though, was the rare, almost imperceptible smile on her face—something that hadn't been seen in months.Aeri, her best friend and partner in crime since childhood, noticed right away. She narrowed her eyes from across the room as Minjeong walked from the pantry back into her office during a short break, all while still having that smile intact on her face.
During lunch, as they sat across from each other, Aeri continued to study Minjeong with a mixture of curiosity and skepticism. She couldn't hold it in any longer. "You seem awfully cheerful today," Aeri remarked, raising an eyebrow as she watched Minjeong enthusiastically eating her lunch. "Especially considering the workload we've been dealing with."
Minjeong glanced up, her smile widening. "Oh, it's nothing. Just in a good mood, I guess."
Aeri was not convinced. She leaned in closer, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Come on, spill it. What's really going on? You're practically glowing, and it's not just the fluorescent lights."
Minjeong chuckled, shaking her head. "You're imagining things. I've just had a couple of good days, that's all."
Aeri narrowed her eyes, still not buying it. "Good days? The kind where you actually look forward to coming into work and dealing with all this chaos?"
Minjeong shrugged, trying to maintain her nonchalant demeanor. "Maybe I've just learned to handle things better."
Aeri leaned back in her chair, folding her arms. "Or maybe someone is making you happier. Care to share?"
Minjeong's smile faltered slightly, then returned with a hint of mischief. "Alright, you caught me. There might be someone I've been seeing recently. But that's all I'm saying for now."
Aeri's eyes widened in excitement. "Oh, really? Spill the details, Minjeong! Who's the lucky person?"
Minjeong laughed, shaking her head. "You're not getting any more out of me right now. But I promise I'll tell you more soon."
Aeri rolled her eyes playfully, though the excitement never left her face. "Fine, fine. Just don't keep me in the dark for too long."
As they dropped the topic, Aeri kept casting curious glances at Minjeong, eager for more hints about her friend's newfound cheerfulness. Minjeong, meanwhile, seemed content to enjoy the moment, savoring the rare pleasure of keeping a delightful secret.
Just as Aeri was about to give up expecting more details about Minjeong's mysterious someone, Minjeong's phone buzzed on the table, drawing both of their gazes.
The screen lit up with a notification from someone named Jimin.
Aeri's eyes widened as she caught sight of the name. She looked at Minjeong with a mischievous grin. "Jimin, huh? Is this the someone you've been seeing?"
Before Minjeong could react, Aeri snatched the phone off the table, holding it just out of Minjeong's reach. "Let's see what's got you smiling so much lately," Aeri teased, her thumb hovering over the screen.
"Aeri! Give it back!" Minjeong protested, reaching across the table, but Aeri was too quick.
"Just a quick peek!" Aeri insisted, laughing as she held the phone out of Minjeong's grasp. "You can't drop a name like Jimin and expect me not to be curious."
