Chapter 2: New Challenges

The path to the boy's new life was not easy. After accepting Sakayanagi's offer, he moved to Advanced Nurturing High School, an institution designed to cultivate the elite of the future. The facilities were impressive, a modern building surrounded by vast grounds that seemed to stretch to the horizon. However, despite the beauty of the place, the boy couldn't shake off a sense of discomfort. It was a world very different from what he knew, one filled with lights and shadows that he could not predict.

When he arrived, he was greeted by a group of students who gathered in small cliques, laughing and chatting carefreely. Unlike him, who had been trained for combat and survival, these young people seemed immersed in a normal life. He couldn't help but feel a slight pang of envy. He had never experienced a life like this, full of laughter and genuine friendships. However, he also knew he couldn't afford to be distracted. His priority was to protect Arisu, and that kept him focused.

On his first day, Sakayanagi gave him a brief orientation. "Arisu is intelligent, perceptive, and has a strong personality. But she is also a target. There are many forces at play here that want to use her or eliminate her. Your job is to ensure her safety, which includes being one step ahead at all times."

The boy nodded. "I understand."

"Remember, you won't be the only one interested in her. There are other students here with extraordinary abilities. Stay alert and don't let your guard down."

That afternoon, as he settled into his new room, he looked around. There was a desk, a simple bed, and a window overlooking the courtyard. It was a personal space, something he hadn't had since he was a baby. However, he had no time to enjoy it. He needed to establish a plan. He set about studying the school, its structure, and its students. The more he knew, the better he could protect Arisu.

The next morning, he headed to the cafeteria for breakfast. As he walked, he overheard snippets of conversation among other students. Comments about competition, about who was the smartest, and who could manipulate others. His interest was piqued. These students were not just ordinary teenagers; they were in an environment where power and influence were the norm. He decided he had to observe them closely.

As he searched for a place in the cafeteria, his eyes landed on a familiar figure. It was Arisu, sitting at a table with other students. Her presence was magnetic, and she did not go unnoticed by anyone in the room. Her silver hair shone in the sunlight, and her gaze was both alluring and intimidating. The boy felt he needed to be cautious; protecting someone like her would require not only physical skills but also a deep understanding of her personality and relationships.

He approached the table and sat beside her, causing a few heads to turn in his direction. "Good morning, Arisu," he said in a neutral tone.

She looked up and gave him a faint smile. "Ah, the bodyguard. How are you? Ready for academic life?"

"I'm not here just to study," he replied. "I'm here to protect you."

Arisu studied him, her eyes scrutinizing. "I can take care of myself. Don't worry too much."

The boy was alarmed by her confidence. "I've noticed that. But my job is to ensure there are no threats, and if there are, I must act."

She raised an eyebrow, amused. "Are you going to protect me from the students in this school?"

"Perhaps. Don't underestimate anyone here. Some may be more dangerous than they appear."

Throughout the week, the boy kept a close eye on Arisu and her interactions. He soon realized that her relationship with her peers was complicated. Some admired her, others feared her, and a few despised her. One of those students who seemed to harbor particular animosity toward her was Kakeru Rokusuke, a boy who, at first glance, appeared carefree, but whose intentions were dark.
