As the day came to an end and the celebrations quieted down, the palace settled into a peaceful silence. The trolls, filled with joy and exhaustion, retired to their rooms, leaving only the soft glow of moonlight to illuminate the halls.
Poppy and Branch, now King and Queen, made their way to their master bedroom. It was a spacious, beautifully decorated room with walls adorned in shades of soft pink and blue, representing the harmony between their personalities. The bed was large and inviting, covered in plush blankets and pillows that seemed to promise a restful night after the long, eventful day.
Once inside, they began to change into their pajamas, slipping out of their royal attire. Branch chose a simple, comfortable pair of blue pajama pants and a white shirt, while Poppy donned a cozy pink nightgown that gently hugged her growing belly. As she stood in front of the mirror, brushing out her hair, Poppy’s mind began to wander.
At first, her thoughts were warm, filled with the love she felt for Branch, the excitement for their future, and the joy of becoming parents. But as she gazed at her reflection, her mind suddenly took a different turn. An unwelcome memory crept in, one she hadn’t thought about in a long time—Creek.
Her ex-boyfriend. The one who had betrayed her and all their friends during the escape from the Bergens. The memory of his treachery had long been buried, but now it resurfaced, sharp and painful, like a thorn in her heart. She could see his smug smile, hear his deceitful voice, and feel the sting of his betrayal as if it had just happened.
Poppy’s hands stilled in her hair, her expression shifting from contentment to unease. She hadn’t realized how much that betrayal had lingered in the back of her mind, haunting her even after all this time. She had forgiven Creek, moved on, and found love with Branch. But now, in the quiet of the night, the memories returned, making her question why they still haunted her.
Branch, noticing the change in her demeanor, approached quietly and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Poppy, is everything okay?” he asked gently, his voice filled with concern.
Poppy snapped out of her thoughts and looked at him, her eyes reflecting the internal struggle she hadn’t expected to face tonight. “I... I was just thinking about Creek,” she admitted softly, her voice tinged with a sadness she couldn’t quite shake. “I thought I had moved on completely, but sometimes, I still think about what he did. How he betrayed us, betrayed me. It just... it hurts all over again.”
Branch’s expression softened, understanding immediately. He knew how deeply Poppy felt things, how her heart was always open and full of love, even after being hurt. He gently took her hand and led her to the bed, where they both sat down together. “It’s okay to feel that way,” he said quietly. “What Creek did was awful, and it’s natural that those feelings would come up again, especially after a day like today.”
Poppy nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. “I just don’t want to carry this with me anymore, especially not now, with everything that’s happening. I have so much to be happy about, but sometimes, it feels like the past is still trying to hold me back.”
Branch wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a comforting embrace. “You’re stronger than the past, Poppy. What Creek did doesn’t define you, and it doesn’t take away from all the good you’ve done and all the happiness we have now. You’ve grown so much since then, and you’ve got a whole new life ahead of you—with me, with our daughter, and with everyone who loves you.”
Poppy leaned into him, finding solace in his words and the warmth of his embrace. She took a deep breath, letting the memories of Creek fade away, replaced by the love she felt for Branch. “You’re right,” she whispered, a small smile returning to her lips. “I can’t let the past keep haunting me. I’ve got too much to look forward to.”
Branch kissed the top of her head, his heart swelling with pride for her strength. “And I’ll be right here with you, every step of the way.”
With those words, the weight on Poppy’s heart began to lift. She knew it wouldn’t be the last time she thought of Creek, but she also knew that with Branch by her side, she could face any memory, any fear, and come out stronger.
As they settled into bed, cuddled close together, Poppy placed a hand on her belly and felt a soft kick from their unborn daughter. The reminder of their future filled her with hope and determination. The past was behind them, and now, they had a beautiful future to build.
With that thought, Poppy closed her eyes, finally allowing herself to rest, knowing that tomorrow was a new day—a day full of possibilities, love, and happiness.
