"You used to live here?"

"Yeah, before I got caught up in a fight with Yuji"

"You mean Sukana's  vessel?"

"He's human you know" I reply with a huff staring gloomingly at the pavement. "I used to go to the school down the road, people didn't really enjoy my company. I used to see things..." I grumble.

"Curses" Satoko would complete. We were walking through the streets, the sun had long snuggled away to give a  soft bloom amongst the blanket of clouds that coated it away. It's pale counter-part creeping up into the sky after, unlike the sun the moon was uncovered shining in its graceful beauty.

Our task was to patrol the city as it was usually packed with grade 2-3 curses, to that I could testify having sensed their prescence throughout my childhood. Though this night seemed to come up dry of them.

"I heard you were some taekwondo elite junior"

Satoko would sigh softly, with a short lived chortle. "Well that's what everyone saw but I personally feel like I was cheating. To everyone else I had good Premonition"

"Premo-what?"

"Prediction" She would blow her hair out of  the way and look to the sky half fondly, half ashamed. "I knew my opponents movement before they did it. Many though it was pure skill or rather rigorous training though it was more plain than that"

"So you simply looked into the future and won" I say with slight jest. "How one sided is that?"

Satoko rolled her eyes. "It was all fun till it got boring, everyone  had the same moves and I was too scared to stop using my technique"

"Serves you right for cheating" I teased.

"I'll break your jaw" She snapped, sending me into a fit of chuckles. Before eventually descending it a semi comfortable silence.

"Oh here's the place I used to work at" We had made it to a cafe I used to work at. We weren't even in and I  could already catch the waft of the coffee beans. "Infinity Coffee its been a while"

Before Satoko could protest I usher her in.

"Okitawa! Didn't expect your ass around here since you resigned"

"Neither did I sir, this is Mr Kubutsi my old boss" I explain to Satoko and she nods politely.

"I didn't think a brat like you would ever get a girl" My Kibutsi gruffs.

"Neither do I" Satoko would tease in a whisper.

"We're here for work" I say sourly.  "Can we get a cake or something sir?"

''Get a table" He nods into the studio and tells one of his workers our order.

"Thanks sir" I smile back politely and gesture for Satoko to follow as we sit at a table.

"I thought you said this place was packed with curses, I'm getting bored already" Satoko would start as she plopped in the chair across.

"It usually is, people are sad around here"

"Explains a couple things"

I huff with a light glare. "We should have encountered one at least. It feels almost off"

After a small dinner, another sweep off the town and we are about to call Ichiji to pick us up but then...

"Y/n!" A voice hummed from somewhere off behind us.

Me and Satoko spun round to identify the source of the voice. We were met with a figure, fairly tall, wearing light clothing apart from a shredded cape that obscured the right side of his body. He wore a cocky grin but what intrigued me the most was his eyes. Fluorescent auburn catching a bloom even in the moonlight, strange and intriguing - perhaps familiar.

"You were probably looking for the curses down here. SO long story short Geto is going to use them for uh...halloween so he asked me to send his condolences"

"Condolences are for funerals stupid" Satoko spat at the person.

"Yes, yes we know" Another figure in a top hat also emerged from the shadows "Ryo is simply bad at words"

"I was going to kill them" The Ryo in question responded

"Oh please let me have my fun first, children are always a joy to play with"

"But Geto said-"

"Tell Geto I changed my mind"

"Whatever Smith" Ryo would say, winking at me first before vanishing as he seemingly took a step back.

As "Smith" took a step properly in the light. His top hat was a grand peice of clothing. He wore a suit, not a suit you would wear to a party but rather somehow suited for battle without sacrifcing its finesse. He was a clean shaved man but his eyes was concealed by the rim of his hat. Though, his fashion sense wasn't the only thing proactive about him; in the first second, he produced playing cards to wish he brandished in a poker spread...

The next second one of those cards were hurling at me, point blank!

In a snap movement, I veer my face out of the way. The bottom corner of a 2 of hearts splicing my neck at a bare skin deep. The initial cut was painless, the indication of the cut was the sting that came moments after as my blood cooled from the exposure to the cool air. Not even before a breath, more fluttering tokens of death blurred towards me.

I took a momentary glance to my companion she seemed to be dodging fine with her foresight as I took cover round a bus stop. Smith chuckled as another card lodged itself next to my foot sinking fully into the cement beside it. The other few rendered my cover to peices. Just when I came into veiw for a clear strike. I watched as Smith's hand gets knocked by a kick from Satoko. She managed her way close to Smith whilst he was focused on me.

Swiftly, I advance to join in. Smith recovered from Satoko's kick but was met with a charged attack of my own. His hat went spiraling upwards, as I chunked at his jaw. He spun back for a counter-attack, catching me in the jaw. I scowl and jab at his chest giving space for Satoko to send dropkick to his ribs as that cried out in a cracking noise. The blood that seeped from Smith's maniacal grin served to prove his injuries.

Things already felt to easy, but I wasn't one to question. Activating my technique I coat my first not with blue but a watered down emulation called Attract. As my fist connects with Smith's guts, in the split second of contact his chest was pulled down hard on my fist, multiplying the force by miles.

Then the air changed, I had the instinct to step back and so did Satoko. A burst of curse energy came from  Smith. As a sized up joker card materialized behind him. He seemed to heal and rejuvenate, emitting a new sense of danger.

"I don't know what Ryo meant by pathetic, you two are brilliant." Smith picked his hat up from the floor and spread out his deck in his hands once more. "Now that we're acquainted, allow me to present my take on poker" The cards floated out of his hand and spun dangerously as he dashed forward.

Momentarily, an ace materialized next to him as his fist came in like a truck. Winding me hard, I had used my mock up of infinity but he somehow got past it. Satoko had already foresaw his movement and set her self up for an axe kick from above. Yet a massive Jack of hearts folded out catching her kick before Smith reached through it to grab her ankle and send her tumbling into me in a glorious attack.

This was not the mission I had anticipated.

A/n - I'm glad I managed to go through and write this faster than I wanted to . And also sorry for the crappy naming for Attract instead of blue😭. Its simple and easy so just let it slide. Thanks for reading again. I wouldn't still be writing if people didn't read so thanks for the support. As a side note Smith's technique is fully original kind of based off Hakari and its nice and complicated. You'll get an explanation hopefully next Chapter so anyways that's Chapter 9.
