Now... statistically, Nicolas Flint, the undying dying boy, should have never run into Sam and Dean ever again. But, some weird little man in the sky decided they were fated to meet again. Now, Nico did not yet know to blame Chuck for everything yet, so he did basically the same thing and blamed God.

Nicolas Flint tried not to make dying a habit, but with his considerably bad luck, he also preferred death to a slow, painful recovery. In the moments between his death and subsquential resurrection, he would wonder if he took death too lightly, if he played too loose with his own life now that he had the guarantee of rebirth.

In moments of weakness or pain, it was easy to slip, step off a bridge, feel the icy embrace of the river, fly in the air for a brief moment, or just let go. It wasn't like he was inconveniencing anyone; they wouldn't remember either way.

Twin sets of beeping are what the undying boy noticed first, the sounds echoing in sharp, painful bursts in his head. But still, he did not dare to open his eyes, only moving his fingers around slightly, feeling the not-quite-smooth texture of the hospital blankets. He tried to move his legs next, only to feel a sharp stab of pain, but at least that meant they were still attached and somewhat functional. His chest burned slightly as he took short breaths, unable to lengthen or deepen them despite his realization that he was panicking, that the air wasn't filling his lungs properly.

One of the heart rate monitors in the room was beeping faster now, out of sync with the slower, more consistent one of an unconscious man. Nicolas sucked in a painful breath, feeling it rattle through his chest as he attempted to match the pace of the unconscious man's breathing to slow his heart rate to the same pace.

He was unsure how long he lay there breathing, not opening his eyes to accept the painful reality that was surviving.

Eventually, he succeeded. Two broken legs, a seemingly pretty severe concussion, and probably some broken ribs. He could feel it all, which meant he hadn't died.

Nicolas tried to think back to what had caused him to be in this situation, mind racing, he had gotten in the car to drive to his sister who had called from her dorm in North Carolina. He was driving through Teneasse, then what? Nothing. A crunching of metal.

"Dean!" A voice shouted from the hallway as a young man shoved himself into the room, hand bracing his tall frame against the doorway; the curtain that had been separating Nico from the other unconscious man was moved enough for him to strain his neck to get a good view. Dean was closer to the door, allowing for his family member to practically collapse into the seat next to the bed, tears gathering in the tall man's eyes. Nico looked away, closing his eyes; they needed their privacy.

"Oh no," the younger man muttering broke Nico's heart a bit. He remembered what it was like to see his sister's small frame broken in a bed, machines all around her. She had been awake, trying to stay positive as she comforted her brother. It was his fault she had gotten hurt, his curse drawing evil and bad luck to them as long as they were together.

"Your father's awake," a different voice said; Nico opened one eye to glance at an older man who appeared to be a doctor.

"What about my brother, Doc?" the young man answered back, after staying quiet for a moment, just looking at his brother's body. He was facing Nico now, and despite the cuts and bruising covering the young man's face, he looked familiar. Oddly familiar. There was an itch at the back of Nico's head as he glanced between the two brothers before he was struck with the sudden and terrifying reality that these were the hunters he had encountered a few weeks prior. Hunters who had seen him die, who he had died for in a way, hunters who had also killed him as he was shifting into a monster. They shouldn't remember him dying, but he also didn't know what they would remember. Could they think he turned and just escaped? Would they just remember saving him? Bryce had said they escaped together when he went to check up on her after the ordeal, but hunters were not the kind of people Nico wanted to be remembered by. Despite the persistent dodging of death, he considered himself human, but hunters were crazy monsters in their own right, driven to kill anything slightly less than normal.
